Personally, when my legs don't look great (bug bites, bruises from climbing, whatever) I will wear patterned tights or avoid skirts.
I don't own hose, and when my legs are healed, I go bare legged at work and outside of work, because we aren't a "hose" environment and I hate them. But, if I was going to court or if I was going to be in a super conservative environment, I would not go without hose or something on my legs.
Also...this is so minor, but I hate the pasty white langague. I'm of western European descent, and I am a fair skinned lady. Is what it is! My legs and the rest of me are fair, so I wear that with pride
I won't wear hose ever. I will sometimes wear tights if I'm in the mood. It doesn't make a difference to me if I'm untanned (which I am most of the time) or banged up, but I have already shown myself not to care very much what others think of my look.
The consensus is anti, but I am pro, at least in formal business situations. No color with the word tan in them though--bare/nude only. At least for my skintone.
It depends on where I am going and what I am doing. If I want to look nice and don't want my legs to stand out I will put on hose. Otherwise, I don't really care.

Agree. I just can't get on board with wearing a business suit and no hose. It just seems...unfinished.
I am generally anti (I don't like the look, don't understand why they make anything more formal, and there is nothing wrong with showing pale bruised legs -- or at least, I flaunt mine), but I can understand why people wear hose when it is really cold out. I don't.

I wear black tights with my suits as soon as I can get away with tights. When it's warm out I use leg makeup to give my legs a bit of color and hide bruises or whatever. It just takes a few seconds per leg to apply. I do wear hose for interviews or if my legs are looking really rough and it's too warm out for tights.
Fair skinned people - does anyone have a rec for a brand that would match my skin tone? I read in a previous thread that higher quality brands would have more color options, but I've only ever bought at the drug store. I am the palest person you will ever meet.
I cannot wear shoes barefoot and the little liners don't work on my feet or they show outside the edges of my shoes.
This was a major factor for my asking. My feet really aren't used to wearing dressy shoes and I'm doing a ton more walking. I'm trying to figure out how I can wear boots today, but I'm not convinced the outfit I've picked out will actually work.

I am pro as well. I love them lol. I love tight season even more. Although lets be honest, tights really aren't that much different than hose.

I think a business suit with no hose is fine in the summer. But for winter purposes, I don't want bare legs, and I don't think tights work with suits. So that's my math.
I'm actually wearing knee highs today with ballet slippers and a just past ankle length skirt. The only time I risk showing the knee highs was getting in/out of the car when I swept up my skirt to make sure it didn't get caught in the door.
I wear tights in the wintertime, solely for warmth. In the spring/summer, I go bare legged. My legs look awful (a lot of scars from a motorcycle accident), but I'm not sweltering by wearing hose in those months. If people want to judge, they can. I'm not hiding myself forever because of my scars. I say wear whatever you are comfortable with. There are no "rules."

Tights can be great with suits! Not with all suits, and they take the formality down a notch so I wouldn't do it for court or an interview, but girls in my office totally pull that look off.

I think for ME, it's more of an issue that my very pale legs look almost purple and unhealthy in the unnatural florescent lighting of an office setting. It is NOT a good look. I do not fake&bake, and those color enhancers/bronzers for legs look awful on me.
So nude hose or purplish hued legs??? GEEEEEEE... what'll it be?
FWIW, I rarely if ever wear pantyhose but when I do, I prefer them to be a very skin-tone color and I think my legs look 1000x better.

I don't love them, but sometimes they're necessary. The key is to get ones that match your skin. I think the last time I got some, they were Berkshire brand. They have lots of shades so I didn't wind up with those orangey-tan looking ones.
Its cold here. I wear them. People would think you were nuts when its 15 degrees and you were bare legged. Also, this is an unpopular opinion, but I think it looks more professional.
I wear hose; black and nude. There is no way I could go bare legged in the winter and suits definitely do not look as polished with bare legs. I work in a very conservative office though.
I will also wear tights with certain dresses (usually sweater dresses), but opaque tights are much more casual in my mind. Tights and suits do not mix.
I also have to laugh at people who scream "Hose are the devil! So uncomfortable!" and then turn around and suggest tights. They are the Same. Thing. Varying degrees of opacity, but identical in every other way. LOL.
