Yeah.. So I saw this floor cleaning recipe on Pinterest that is supposed to leave floors streak free. It's water, vinegar, alcohol, and some dishsoap. I diluted it with more water and added some essential oil too.
I made it and put it in my mop. My housekeeper cleaned this morning and she left all the windows wide open...it reeked! My house reeks like vinegar and antiseptic so strongly I feel bad for the poor lady that she had to clean my floors with that putrid smell. Hours later and it has not dissipated. NASTY
IT was the alcohol - sorry my op wasn't clear. It smelled like vinegar too, faintly. When I clean with vinegar I can always smell it for at least an hour afterward, but I have the nose of a bloodhound and no one else can smell it.
It smelled like a hospital...definitely not a good cleaning recipe I'll go back to my Dr. brohnners and vinegar concoctions.
I would guess that the essential oil was the culprit. I would think that without it, the vinegar and alcohol smells would dissipate quickly. I have a pretty sensitive sense of smell, and I find that essential oils often linger and smell weird to me, even if I love the smell initially.
It was not the two dros of tangerine oil. It smelled like alcohol. I used like the bottle of alcohol in the bandaidaisle atthe store. Not rubbing alcohol but isopropyl alcohol I think it's called. I wonder if vodka would work better haga
You may have grabbed the wrong strength of alcohol. Or more likely, the person who put up the recipe didn't realize they sell it in different strengths.
Either way, I bet vinegar is the key, not alcohol.

I’ve read a few recipes like that. They all mentioned that if you use the wintergreen alcohol, it doesn’t smell as much. I’ve never tried it, so I don’t know. I also notice the vinegar lingers at least 30 minutes for me.
