Competitor bought my beloved Women's Half Marathon. Not going to lie, I was expecting them to screw it up and they did. The new course had a three mile out and back, total six miles, of not much. No more live entertainment on the course and water from the hose.
However, as ugly as it was, I finished at 2:36, a 14 minute PR.
Looking forward to space coast half next weekend and hopefully a maintenance of my time, if not a PR.
They bought the Women's Half? Is that why they cancelled RnR? !
That's the thought. They took tropicana field out if the course too. I hated the RnR course, and liked the women's but this year the course was just down right awful. It's a big race for my running group but I'm really on the fence about it for next year. As of now, I'm not registering. I'd rather do the half in Lakeland earlier in the month and then space coast.

Not sad about the trop, I hated running through there. Running on that turf was like running through sand after 10 miles of running on roads.. but I know that was a big thing for a lot of people, so in that aspect, it sucks that they took it out.
The last few years the womens half was a big race for the group I (used to) run w/, but this year it looks like only a few people ran. Have you ever done any of the Florida Beach Series half marathons? I can't recall where you live, i think TPA area.. There are 4 races (Jan, March, Oct, & Dec), each half also has a 5k, and the one in January has a 5 miler.
I've only run in downtown lakeland once, for a 5k, and it was hilly! Is the half new?

Whooo! Jenni, you'll be near next weekend. Congrats on the PR and good luck next weekend!

Stingyshark - the Lakeland half was inaugural this year (http://www.redribbonhalf.com/runners-information/). If I hadn't already been signed up for Women's, would have don it. I went to college in Lakeland and lived there for a few years afterwards. Kind of miss it actually. I did the Jan. race for the Florida Beach Series a few years ago, I did the 5 miler and I remember it was brutally cold. Thinking about doing the one in March.
I heard from a lot of people that they were glad the trop was taken out, same reason you mentioned. It's so funny how everyone is so unique about what they like and don't like. For me, it was just a bit of relief to be in air conditioning for a bit.

secretlyevil I did the Jan half last year (i think) and it was in the 80's by time we finished =/ It is so hard to pick a race bc weather is so temperamental this time of year.
DH's dad lives in Lakeland, over near the mall. It's a nice area, but it's way to busy for me.
