When life hands me lemons, I take control and fight back. I'm don't dwell on the negative. When I had cancer last year, I kept working, kept running and only took a week and a half off, including my operation.
Weather has been about the same here, a tad colder. I run better in cold weather anyway.
I balance training by scheduling it in. I'm a project manager anyway, so it's no bother to schedule stuff in. My husband is very supportive as he has his own fitness goals.
I shop online at wiggle (UK site). My friend works for them and can swing a pretty sweet discount.
What marathon: Tucson, 2 weeks away! I've got the madness!
when life hands you lemons.: I try to readjust my expectations, which I'm struuuuugling but trying to do with this marathon.
how did major adjustment go: I've got cold-weather running gear for days thanks to training for a Feb marathon earlier this year, so I was fine.
balancing training and life? I finish about 33% of training before anyone in my house wakes up. The rest is usually done during my 2hrs of daily gym childcare. I'm really, ultra lucky to not have to do much juggling. That will change a bit with ironman, but still only 1 day a week most weeks.
favorite place to shop: would you blv I haven't bought anything for this race during this cycle?! Even gels - I've just been using whatever I have around the house, oops. I'll go buy a top for the race, probably at lll, and I need to buy some gels. Otherwise this has been a very blah cycle for me.
Favorite part of thanksgiving: the plate of microwaved green bean casserole & mashed potatoes, and the second little sliver of pie at about 10 pm in my jammies while we watch a movie.
Dealing with irritating shit: I'm usually pretty bad at it. I just get pissed. I AM getting better at being more circumspect about things though - I've come to realize that things pretty much always work out one way or another.
Cold weather: So I got on a plane to Kentucky on Thursday and it was 80, and I got back Friday night and it was 40. WTF. It was really really hard to get myself out the door this weekend for both runs, as it usually is in the cold, but my runs themselves were awesome. Such a nice change from 3 months ago, slogging through summer training.
Life balance: I do pretty well I think, though I did have to skip one run week before last because I just couldn't fit it in around all the interviews. I don't feel like I have much to balance compared to everyone trying to figure out childcare and things like that. I'm also lucky enough to have an awesome H who is more than willing to pick up the slack if he needs to.
Shopping: I like running warehouse for general things, and LLL for clothes. I also go to Academy if I need something immediately, but they often piss me off by just randomly stopping carrying things.
Thanksgiving: I love the time off, mostly. I don't love thanksgiving food, and I don't love doing in-law duty like I am this year.
When life hands you lemons, either H&F or NH&F related, how do you handle this situation?
This is something I'm just freakishly good at. Sure, I get bummed about things, but I'm pretty laid back with this type of stuff, and pretty accepting of the fact that some things are just out of my control. I can dwell and pout, or I can accept the situation for what it is, and make the best of it.
Who had a major weather adjustment during this week of training? How did it go? Did you find yourself over/under/just right prepared for it?
It was SO windy on my run on Sunday. It was the most challenging MP run I think I have ever done. The gusts literally full on stopped you in your tracks. I had horrible windburn all day yesterday. It will get inot the 30's this week, but I have the clothes for that.
How are you doing with balancing training and life. (Repeat question)? Feel free to give examples.
I think I handle it pretty well. It helps that we are still childless. Sometimes I have to adjust (like this past week), due to work travel. DH has been really great about riding his bike while I run. Last week had 3 double digit runs, so it was nice to have his company/for us to spend time together while I spent hours running.
Where is your favorite place to shop for marathon-related things?
I usually buy shoes from LRS or Running Warehouse, and I usually get something for the race at LLL or Athleta.
Tell us your favorite part of thanksgiving.
I love everything, I can't choose. It's my favorite holiday. I'm a little bummed this year because I'm not hosting, and we're not with my family, but DH is really excited to go to his brother's house, and I'll be able to relax a bit without hosting duties.
