I don't put one up now that I'm single. I don't spend Christmas here and it seems like too much work and mess. And I know my cats would climb it and bring the whole thing crashing down.
My dad is Jewish so I light the menorah and call it a day.

This is one of the reasons! I also can't leave any wrapped gifts out because the cats will chew through the paper and boxes and steal the bows.
I'm not. I feel like it's a waste of space/time/money the last 2 years. I hang ribbons and hang the ornaments that way. Maybe next year - we just travel too much over the holidays to really have time to appreciate it.
We did one year. The cats took it down. We are going to try again this year but do some securing the wall. I am sure it will end badly.
My parents actually have a screw in their ceiling that they run fishing line from to the top of the tree. It works really well and you can't see it at all. I would recommend giving it a try. They have never had a tree fall over and that's in a house with 4 dogs and 3 cats.
The wall probably isn't going to work if you have a determined cat unless if you have at least 4 points secured to the tree.

Hmm...I will have to ask DH...we have a textured ceiling (not popcorn, but textured) and I love it...so we will have to see if it will work without being overly noticeable. Stupid cats (that I love dearly).

We don't put one up. When (if?) I ever graduate to the level of adulthood that involves actually being in my own home on Christmas day I will get a tree. Until then I will just continue to be annoyed when people gift me Christmas ornaments that I have nowhere to hang.

DH and I prefer to travel to see families over Christmas, so we don't put up a tree if we're going to be gone. We do put up all the other decorations, though.
I have wrapping paper and ribbons and stuff in an under-the-bed Tupperware thing. One of my cats regularly breaks into it and scatters ribbons throughout the house. She particularly likes to drown them in her water bowl. God only knows what she would do to wrapped presents.
I wouldn't if it weren't for dh. I feel like it is just in the way, especially in this house, and just so much work for something that is up such a short amount of time.
That said I do enjoy the lights. But I like pp's idea of just doing a wreath.
I don't see the hassle of putting up more than one - or a "themed" tree. I'm all about trees with meaning, homemade decorations that have stories behind them etc. etc.
H and I have yet to put up a tree in our 4.5 yr marriage. He didn't put up a tree before we were married either. Eventually once we have kids/a bigger house that'll fit a tree we'll do it. So maybe in 1-2 years. We haven't been at our home for Christmas in our marriage; we always spend it with my family.

I have never put up a tree since living on my own. Or even since being married. I guess I'm just lazy and/or scrooge.
This is the first year I'm considering it. I was feeling really Christmas-spirit-like and actually getting so excited about it that I was going to do it before thanksgiving.
But reading these responses about cats is making me reconsider. I know my cat would be all over that shit and I would be getting pissed off every day.
