Even though it's turkey and white meat, I say red because it's cold and the food is on the heavier side for the sides. Plus, I think it goes better with dessert
The best Thanksgiving I've been to was at the house of fellow boozers. The place setting had all of the appropriate plates, bowls, and numerous utensils. Each one also had a red glass, a white glass, a beer pilsner, and a champagne glass. Each one was filled and you were expected to finish them just as you were expected to clear your plate.
Half of their family was vegetarian, too, so I was in heaven. No tofurkey, thank god, but plenty for me to gorge on.

If you want to choose just one that is an "appropriate match" I would do a light and fruity red. A good Beaujolais or Pinot Noir.
If you were me, I would have both red and white, and they would just be bottles that I enjoy. I care more about liking the wine than proper pairings; it is a bonus if I happen to achieve both.
why is "both" not an option? I usually just ask people if they want red or white.
I was wondering what was more proper/ what people would expect and did not think about serving both, although we usually have both in my house.
My inlaws are going to flip, they don't drink and expect everyone else not to drink around them... My house my rules, I will not be rude and flaunt it in there face but I will not abstain.

I like to offer options as well, so I say both. I don't think one really goes better than the other, just each person's preference. And I like the, "your house, your rules!" Way to go!
I would have both red and white. Probably a lighter red like Pinot Noir (even though I'm not a fan). If I were drinking this year, I think I'd pick up a bottle of Cline Old Vine Zin b/c I love Zinfandel, and it is a lighter bodied one.
Oooo...will you be my drinking buddy? Well...in a few more months anyway. Zinfandels are my favorite. Our holiday bottle is "7 Deadly Zins" that I initially bought years ago for the funny name but stick with bc I like it.
