I'm not a runner, but I want to be. I've had asthma my whole life which is what has always held me back, but I want to train and at least be able to run effortless 5Ks someday. I was doing alright (relatively speaking) and doing interval training, and had no issues. Starting about 3 weeks ago I started getting ridiculous shin splints in my left leg to the point that once they start I need to just walk because any running feels like my shin is on fire. I've lost 2-2.5 minutes off my mile (which was only 14:30-15 to begin with) and I'm doing a 13.1 in January. I never had any intention of running the half, but I was hoping to do it with 14 minute miles. If the past weeks are any indication, I'll be picked up by the sweepers.
I've had a gait analysis and have new shoes. They've helped a little bit, but not much. She said my stride looks good, but I know that as I fatigue and as my shins start to hurt that its not quite so pretty.
What else can I do to try to fix this? I don't know why they started. I've been doing all my training outside so nothing has changed there. I have worn compression socks and pants and they haven't really done much either. I ice when I get home and stretch before I go out.

Congrats on your progression and overcoming your asthma in order to run! I've learned that stretching after is key. Typically any shin pain I get is from when my calves are too tight. I have to be sure to stretch and use a foam roller after each run, otherwise things just get worse. Good luck on your half! Be sure to let us know how it goes.
