I am debating my haircut for this afternoon. My hair is currently very long, dead on the ends, takes too long to blow dry, and is too much for summer. I want shorter but not sure how short. I am between these two: 1. 2.
If it matters I have a roundish face and thinner straight hair that can frizz in humidity without proper products.

I'm growing mine out to decrease maintenance. I want to be able to let it natural dry without ironing it, to be able to tie it back. Right now it's chin length and looks like a hot mess if left unstyled; eventually it's going to skim my shoulders.
I would start with the longer cut and after you get it done, if you love it and think you could even go a little shorter, then go back for the first one. They're both super cute. I just know when I go from long to super short it's a little shocking. A step in between might be a good thing.

I was thinking shorter=less time styling. Am I way off?
My DH also said to try mid length first so it's not as shocking. I just figured if I didn't like it it would grow.
How long it takes to style depends entirely on your hair. When mine is about the length of the first one it air dries like a dream, so i can just put some product in it and go.
But if it's shorter than that it wants to go every which way and actually needs to be styled.
And then when it starts to hit shoulderlength or more it starts to look like a mess if I just let it go. Not that I actually do anything about that besides just stick it in a ponytail...but you get the idea.
I feel like every head of hair has it's own sweet spot. If you haven't gone shorter before you might just have to experiment to see how yours behaves. I say just cut it. It'll grow. I've had hair every length between nearly buzzed short and nearly to my butt long - so I'm kinda blase about big changes.

Go with 2. If you leave it wavy, it will be very Alexa Chung. I always find the shorter I go the more work my hair is to style. I have long hair and wear it down more than up, but still like to throw it into a ponytail when it's too hot.

Agreed. Even just looking at the photos you posted above, the shorter look is definitely more maintenance.
I love Reese's hair & like #2 the best. Like others have said, for me it is harder for me to style my hair when it's short. I think the weight of it being longer helps it not want to flip everywhere. Also in my experience, when I've gone shorter a lot of the times it ends up shorter than I was planning so I'd definitely go mid length first!
