I ran the Schaumburg (IL) Turkey Trot Half Marathon yesterday morning. The race was PERFECT for a first timer, fairly flat, not a ton of people, very well run. It took place in a beautiful park (the entire race was inside the park, no road running at all) and it didn't start until 9:15 which meant it was about 35 degrees and sunny by the time it started, which was perfect. I highly recommend the race for those of you in the Chicago area.
As for my performance, my official time was 2:14:50, so a 10:18 average pace. I wanted to finish in under 2:30, and 2:15 was my "stretch" goal. I almost didn't make the stretch goal but kicked it into high gear for a very painful final 1.1 miles (ran that in about 8:50 according to my watch).
I did an 8K back in early June at a 10:35 pace, so my training has served me well. This is the first time I've ever trained for anything o my own, and stuck with it.
I'm sore as hell today, but proud and happy and ready for the next one!
