D has been doing pretty well with sleep training at night. She's learning to go to sleep on her own and the crying is lessening.
I have been still holding her to sleep for naps but now when I try to transfer her to the crib she wakes up and freaks out.
Two days ago I tried to let her CIO at nap but she wouldn't give in and I finally held her and she was so worn out from crying that she went to sleep and transferred fine.
So do I do CIO for naps too? It just sucks because if she cries for a long time then nap gets pushed way back and I don't think she'll be ready for bed. Also I feel like I don't always know if she's actually ready for a nap but I try to keep a little bit of a schedule.
People who have done CIO, did you do naps as well? I do NOT want to start a habit of having to hold her the whole nap. How long do I let her go before holding or giving up on the nap all together (not what I want to do either!)
Yep, naps too. A fights every nap I put him down for, but knows I'm not coming back in (under normal circumstances), so he's usually out in less than 5 minutes.

I know this is a stupid question- but do you put him down at basically the same time every day? Or wait for "tired cues"? I guess I feel bad making her CIO if she's not really tired but she NEEDS a nap'!
ladybug What are you doing for CIO at night? Can you help me do it too? Hehe... We may have to try it w/ Max bc he's started to try to manipulate us at night by pretending to need diaper changes, food, etc. instead of sleeping and throwing tantrums and we're kind of over trying to put him to bed the old way and need to try to do it in his toddler bed again (we reverted back from it when he went to preschool in Sept.) We may have to do it for day naps too...

We did it for naps. She was always a great night sleeper but naps were an issue. Your life will suck for a week or so and then it should be good. It took V 2-3 days but she was way younger. I feel like they had less willpower a year ago, haha

Well I don't know if it will work in a toddler bed because I just let her cry up to 20 min before I go in. Then I go in re-pile all her paci's that she's thrown around, pat her back a bit and walk back out.

I don't know you'd actually keep in his bed....
Yeah that's a good point. Maybe we need to put up his crib again! Sigh...

I definitely go with cues, but I try to stick to a window. He usually gets up around 7-7:30, so I try to get his nap in around 12-1. However, he is a sucky napper these days, and sleeps on average 40 mins a day. He goes to bed at 7:30.
Yep, naps too. Every great once in awhile he'll fight his naps, but I know if I give in to him even once (and get him out), he'll try it every time. So I leave him. He'll always eventually fall asleep. If that happens I let him cry/scream/carry on for about 10 minutes and then I go in and give his binkies back (because he throws them out), and then walk right back out while telling him to go to sleep. I also use the voice thing on them monitor to talk to him and tell him to lay down. That works a lot of the time too.
I do the same time everyday, unless we're out of course. But if we're at home, its always 1 o'clock. He's gotten so used to it that now that when I ask if he wants to take a nap (when it turns 1 oclock) he says yes and grabs his blankies and heads for the stairs. If he slept in substantially that morning, I may push it to 1:30, but its never later than that.
We started CIO with naps, but she was really young. You need to do both. When we did it, we looked for tired cues, but at this age I would just put her down around the same time each day.

Dude she's just playing in there now! Kicking her legs, singing, jumping on her bed.. With random whines here and there! Ugh! Sleep was bound to be screwed up today since she slept until 10 but it's so late!!!

Like I said the other day, turn off the monitor! Just be ignorant and think that she's sleeping! Haha!
If it makes you feel better, Sydney just went down for a nap. But we were out and about.

I have a friend who's daughter talks and sings before bed and naps. She aske her pedi and other moms of maybe she should change the schedule, and everyone said no, stick to schedule, at least a she's not in distress.
Didn't you say you tried the toddler bed for a night? Did she climb out? Or just stay in the bed even when upset or not tired?
I may just have the world's strangest toddler but Pey never gets out of her bed. Even when DH is doing CIO.
She fell out. Haha she moves all over the place still. She would definitely get out if she could.
Oh gotcha. Did you try building a wall of blankets/stuffed animals? That's what we do and she doesn't fall out. But since you are sure she'd climb out I guess that's irrelevant. Haha.

Ya I tried your blanket under the sheet. I thought about getting an actual bed rail but I know she'd just get out through the opening that's on one side... Haha
You should do it for naps too. Samantha is all over the place when it comes to naps. Last weekend she wouldn't nap except in the car (I tried CIO in her crib and it didn't work) this weekend she's gone down without a problem. It definitely depends on when she wakes up in the morning and I can gauge when she will be ready for nap. It's usually around 5 hours. She will give me tired cues.
My max CIO is 20 min. Most of the time she will go down in about 5-10. I sort of can tell when it's not going to work, but I think you should try to be as consistent as possible with it. Good luck.

This happens to us when she is overtired. This is a good example of when we will use CIO.

Well now she's been in there for an hour and is still awake. She's just whining on and off. And playing around. She'll lay down for a minute but get back up.
She did sleep in way late today it's almost 3 hours past her normal nap time too. I'm just screwed today.

You are so patient! Now that she's sleeping I would wake her up no later than 4:30, then tire her out so hopefully she will still make her bedtime.

Haha she only slept for like 10 min. But since she slept I went in and let her up and made it seem like the end of a normal nap so I didn't technically "give in" she had a horrible poopy diaper so that's probably why she didn't want to sleep. Oops.
CIO didn't work for me, I always had to lay with Elias to put him down. But now that I have a big mattress in his room, I just go in and lay him down on it and it takes no more than fifteen minutes till he's out and I can leave. Then I just close his door and when he wakes up I hear him jiggling his door knob.
If this doesn't work out, maybe think about transitioning to a big bed where you can just lay her down? Just a thought I dont have CIO advice because it didn't work out for us.
I wish I could let Brady CIO. Since he's in a big bed he gets up and breaks off the door knob covers and comes out .
We're making progress though no nursing during the day the last two days! No nursing for bed just motn. My boobs hurt so bad.
I put tape on his door knob and he cant figure out to turn it with it on. Try it! I did it because he has a push lock on the knob so it would always accidentally lock. I taped it to where it cant be pushed in.
