Not by a few points; it was 165. Guys, I really don't want GD. Diabetes runs in my family - my mom got GD with my brother and then it stayed around, her brother developed it in his 40s.
Tell me stories of you all failing the one hour and being fine? I know it can be "common" not to pass the one hour, but I failed by a high margin. Any idea how much what I ate that day would affect my score? Of course it was someone's birthday last Tuesday at work (and the last day before vacation), so we had tons of treats - I had a bagel with cream cheese for breakfast, half a donut later, a clementine with my salad for lunch. My only prep rules were to fast for an hour before I got there, but I probably ate all of this at least 3 hours beforehand.
We were out of the country for the holiday and that was the good news I came back to after a shitacular traveling day. This also means taking another day off from work. I am in one hell of a mood this morning after yesterday and also not looking forward to going back to work today, so can someone reassure me that this isn't so bad?
hey, I have my this week so can't much but sorry about this news. That sucks but you might still pass the 3 hour. I do wonder if what you ate beforehand made a difference, that is a lot of carbs/sugar. I thought you are supposed to eat protein before the test.
When is your 3 hour? I would try and eat protein rich/low carb foods beforehand (I'm planning on having eggs for breakfast etc).
Try not to worry about it. I failed the one hour by a lot too - like 171. I did the 3 hour and passed every draw easily. It just took longer for my blood sugar to drop than others. After 3 hours my sugar was lower than my fasting level (77). The 3 day diet is a pain, but it's doable. I did shower thank you notes during the test at lab corp. good luck!

I think most docs make you follow a 3 day diet ahead of the test, requiring you to eat a good amount of carbs and sugar at every meal. I will add that before my 1 hour I fasted bc it was an early test and I didn't eat breakfast (yet I still failed).
I made my test for the early am and only had eggs prior to the test and I passed. However, I also didn't crave many sweets and carbs so I was eating a lot of protein anyways.

This, and any carbs you do partake in be sure they are complex carbs.
I failed my 1 hr with DD and passed my 3 hour. Here you have to fast midnight onwards I believe it was so you are crazy starving by the end of it all. I had also indulged in a variety of sugary things the day before which likely skewed my initial results.
My 1 hour test instructions said abolutely no fruit and the nurse told me no bread and no sugar. I think your breakfast and lunch before probably contributed a lot to your score. I had a small bowl of honey nut cheerios a few hours before I tested (bc I didn't want to wait until after thanksgiving) and am still waiting for the results. Hope you pass your 3 hour!
It's so interesting how different practices handle this!
I called to schedule my 3 hour - next Monday morning. I'll fast after midnight the night before, so I'm sure I'll be starving. I asked about a diet to follow beforehand, but apparently my doctors' office doesn't do that? It seems weird to me and I just keep thinking I'm going to screw this up one way or another and get a false negative or false positive by not doing something correctly! The ONLY instructions for my one hour was fast for an hour; the only instructions for the three are no food or drink besides water after 12am.
I also hate the wifi in the office - it didn't work for my one hour, so passing the time is going to be more challenging!

I didn't have to do a special diet either, just fasting 8 hours before the 3 hour. Good luck with your test, and you will be ok if you have it. I don't think it's common for it to stick around after birth either, so I hope that that wouldn't happen for you. I brought a laptop, movie and headphones during my test so I wasn't bored to death.
re: the special diet: www.webmd.com/baby/oral-glucose-tolerance-test It's "special" in the sense that it ensures a steady amount of carbs & sugar in your diet leading up to the test. I think they don't want you trying to beat the test by eating super healthy or exercising a lot. I think you get a similar test for regular diabetes too.
I just found out that I failed my one hour this morning, too. I didn't have to fast or anything for it, I was just told not to eat anything with a lot of sugar before it (all I had this morning before the test was water and eggs).
I was told for the three hour (which I'll do Wednesday morning) that I just need to fast from midnight the night before, no special diet.
I hardly know anyone IRL that passed the 1 hour test and they all went on to pass the 3 hour. I just took my last week and am waiting on my results, I'm nervous!
I failed my 1 hour but passed the 3 hour. The fact that I ate a brownie maybe 1.5 hours before the 1 hour test may have contributed to the failure. I told myself that it was only a little piece so it was ok.
After the 3 hour, I was famished but didn't have time that morning to pack a lunch. Then I didn't have time after the test to get some Chipotle because otherwise I would miss my bus. I got to my destination and bought a sandwich at the drugstore. So bring food for after the 3 hour!
My brother gave me a 3G iPad a while back and I was like "Why do I need 3G?" That thing has been a lifesaver for these interminable OB office visits, esp the 3 hour test.
My doc didn't tell me about the "special diet", I heard about it from my cousin who was "glucose sensitive" her doc told her she probably would have passed if she had complex carbs the day before instead of white rice. Oh and milk is bad before the test too, that's why I failed my 1 hr.
