We haven't talked about PB in ages! I went in one yesterday for the first time in at least 2 years (yep, I live in the boonies). Everything looked the exact same as it did when I registered there in 2006! I just got the fall preview emai from them and I swear it's nearly identical merchandise to what it's been for years.
So, do you think they really haven't changed, or do you think they are changing, they're just really good at sticking with what they know? Do you think we experienced D&R ladies have outgrown them but that they're still popular with D&R newbies and the masses? Or do you think their oversized rustic chic look has passed and they're on their way to the retail graveyard? Discuss
I like them, I just cant usually afford them I think they are good at sticking with what they know, the bones of it seem the same but they change out the fabrics to match whatever is the latest fad, etc.
I'm a D&R newbie and I just bought my entertainment console and coffee table there, so you might be on to something =). We went with their reclaimed wood collection which I really loved the look of. I don't think I'd get much else there, though.
There will always be a market for Pottery Barn. Just like there will always be a market for Ashley Furniture. They're not there for people who are really into design.
I know what you mean, but I agree that there will always be a place for them. While I'd be more tempted to buy stuff from them if it didn't always look the same, but I have to admit that Restoration Hardware really turned me off with the total shift in tone they've had.
Yeah, even though it's not my aesthetic I've always loved looking at the Restoration Hardware catalog because I know it's great quality. And I can get inspired by some of it (colors, textures) even if it's more traditional than what I like.
But even though brownish gray is one of my favorite colors, taupe on taupe on taupe is just a little too much for me.
I say the same thing every time we get a PB catalog, lol!
It's the same old stuff, over and over.
On the other hand, I think there will always be people who appreciate their esthetic, so I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing for them. But I don't waste much time there unless I'm looking for something specific: you know it's never going to be new! Or fresh! at PB.
