G has been in training pants during the day for several weeks now. This weekend she only had one accident in 3 days and it was after a 3 hour nap . Even on the drive to Oregon she told us and managed to hold it until we could pull off the highway.
It's really not that scary, and mostly much less work than diapers. I've been doing laundry about as often as I used to have to do cloth diaper laundry but only bc we don't have that many pairs of training pants (and I still have to wash her overnight diapers anyway), with the occasional pair of pants/tights thrown in.

This is terrifying. Stop making our babies grow up! DIAPERS AND CRIB FOR LYFE!!!!
Edie is 3 and I am not ever giving up on night dipes! Not ever!
G woke up at 6am saying "potty, potty...POTTY!" and DH took her, then brought her back to our bed with just her pajama bottoms on. I was kind of terrified! Daytime is great, but it will be a long while before I'm ready to give up on the safety net of diapers at night.
That's awesome! I don't think we are close to pt'ing although this morning she pointed to her diaper after she pooped. They start them in DC when they turn 2.
Matilda doesn't even like having her diaper changed. She would much rather go around all day in a diaper FULL of pee and poop than have it changed. I fear her lack of distaste for walking around in her own pee and feces will mean potty training will be difficult... As of now when I ask her if she pooped she says yes if she hasn't and no if she has.

G is so smart! I think Evan is starting to grasp the concept but he never tells us when he's going in his diaper.
I have a question for you if you don't mind... a lot of critism on early potty training is that the parents are the ones that are being trained (as opposed to the child, I guess), meaning that you have to ask all the time if she needs to go potty? I don't know. Do you find that's true? A friend told me this the other day (she's got two older boys) and I know I've heard the same thing before.

No problem. Really, we're both trained and I prefer these chores to the chores involved with diapers. It's quick and easy to pull her pants and training pants down around her ankles, plop her on the potty, wipe, fix her pants, wash hands, and be done with it. If I have to go, then she sits on her little potty. Otherwise she uses the seat reducer ring. She knows that pee and poop go in the potty and tries to get it there. She often tells us she needs to go then can hold it for a few minutes until we can get to a potty. It also has pretty much cured her on-again-off-again persistent diaper rash.
One of my main motivations for early training was to try to avoid the power struggles and regressions that I've heard can often accompany potty training an older toddler. It wasn't at all traumatic for her or me, just something else she's working on learning, like using utensils and kicking a ball. I also was getting tired of the diaper laundry and am glad that has started to reduce.
She's obviously not as independent as a 3 year old would be -- she still has accidents, but her training pants can hold one pee long enough for me to change her without her pants getting wet (and no puddles). She's really good at getting the poop in the potty so I'm not really that worried about a poop accident. I do typically ask her maybe once every hour while she's busy playing (usually she shakes her head no) and I insist that she "try" if it's been more than several hours or we're about to get in the car. When she's not distracted, she'll usually let me know but when she's playing she sometimes won't notice until there's not enough time to make it. I also have to help her with her pants and wipe for her. It's a lot faster than a diaper change since she fights those tooth and nail and also less messy, especially for poop.
