I don't know if I can do @vtcupcake 's previous threads justice, but I thought I would try. Speaking of which, CONGRATULATIONS on being a marathoner! I am completely impressed that you made it to the start line, but I never had any doubt that you would finish.
Which marathon are you running and when?
Any AWs from the past week? Did you kill a Turkey Trot? Or maybe a pie or a bottle of wine?
It is now officially Christmas Cheer season. So, tell us about your favorite holiday traditions!
And last but not least, my 17 miler nearly killed me dead yesterday. It was miserable. Anyone have a secret to a good long run, or at least something that works for you most of the time?

I had a really fantastic tempo run on Wednesday. 10 miles w/5 @ 7:35-7:45 pace. Also, despite my epic Thanksgiving drunken shopping, I got up and got a nice 9 miler in on Friday.

One of the things I look forward to every year is decorating the tree & watching Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown. I used to watch it with my dad every year; it was his favorite. Ever since he passed away in 2000, it's always been a sad-happy memory for me. DH bought me the DVD when we were dating, and now every year, we decorate the tree, spike some eggnog, and watch Charlie Brown.
And last but not least, my 17 miler nearly killed me dead yesterday. It was miserable. Anyone have a secret to a good long run, or at least something that works for you most of the time?
I almost always run the same exact route for my long runs. When I'm having a tough run, it helps because I can break it up into sections. Just get to the river, the next water fountain, the church on the corner, etc. It's easier to tackle the tough runs that way.
Which marathon are you running and when? I still have 2w before training starts, but Boston 4/21
Any AWs from the past week? Did you kill a Turkey Trot? Or maybe a pie or a bottle of wine? I'm running and drinking pretty well lately, if I do say so myself. Tis the season. I had to DNS the turkey trot I was signed up for. I'd like to sign up for something else, but DH is on weekends now. We are signed up for the Myrtle Beach Half (2/15) though!
It is now officially Christmas Cheer season. So, tell us about your favorite holiday traditions! We love our Advent calendars! We have traditional, cheap chocolate, and Lego this year. We also read a different Christmas book every night.
And last but not least, my 17 miler nearly killed me dead yesterday. It was miserable. Anyone have a secret to a good long run, or at least something that works for you most of the time? When I'm training I do most of my running on tired legs. This leads to lots of sucky runs I break it up, and just talk my way through it. Also, caffeine. I bring out gu or chews with a caffeine kick on the days I need it.
Which marathon are you running and when? Tucson on Sunday!
Any AW's from the past week? Did you kill a Turkey Trot? Or maybe a pie or a bottle of wine? Yes, I killed all 3 of those things. Killed them dead.
It is now officially Christmas Cheer season. So, tell us about your favorite holiday traditions! We do the classic things: Christmas movies by the fire, new PJs on Christmas Eve, lots of family time, but now that DD is almost 3, we are really LOVING every bit of this season. So much magic and excitement - it's unbelievable. This last weekend we took a little trip to a mountain town to ride the Polar Express train - DD was AWESTRUCK! H and I had the serious warm fuzzies - it was a really special weekend for us. We will be making that trip a tradition from now on.
Anyone have a secret to a good long run, or at least something that woks for you most of the time? I have to do the mental break up on every long run. Sections of 4 or 5 miles. A friend sure helps, too.
Which marathon are you running and when? Houston 1/19 - only 2 more true long runs to go!
Any AWs from the past week? Did you kill a Turkey Trot? Or maybe a pie or a bottle of wine? Well. I have been killing my bank account. I feel like I need to confess somewhere - I've been on a straight up shopping spree, all for myself. I've been excusing it based on the fact that residency interviewing is turning out to cost way less than I thought. I am hereby cutting myself off until Christmas/birthday money/giftcards start rolling in. I also took out a bottle and a half of wine. No Turkey trot or pie though, because apparently my MIL doesn't believe in real dessert, or something.
It is now officially Christmas Cheer season. So, tell us about your favorite holiday traditions! Although I wrote this question, I do not have a good answer. I love all the usual Christmasy things - decorating the tree, lots and lots of Christmas music, gingerbread overload, etc. And even though I'm not remotely religious anymore, I love going to midnight mass with my family.
And last but not least, my 17 miler nearly killed me dead yesterday. It was miserable. Anyone have a secret to a good long run, or at least something that works for you most of the time? I've actually found that my runs involving some miles at race pace go a lot better. I think if I'm focused on my pace I have something to think about other than OMG why do I do this to myself. Also, pad thai. It's my recently discovered magic pre-run food.zl
Which marathon are you running and when? Boston on 4/21. Trying to simultaneously rest and keep in shape before training officially starts in a couple weeks.
Any AWs from the past week? Did you kill a Turkey Trot? Or maybe a pie or a bottle of wine? I kinda sucked at my Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving. Might have been a result of all the booze I killed previous to that morning though….
It is now officially Christmas Cheer season. So, tell us about your favorite holiday traditions! Doing a whole lot of nothing on Christmas day!
And last but not least, my 17 miler nearly killed me dead yesterday. It was miserable. Anyone have a secret to a good long run, or at least something that works for you most of the time? Not really. Mine seem to be weather-dependent. Not too hot, not too cold, not too windy, not too rainy, and of course the hard part - dressing appropriately!
Which marathon are you running and when? Houston 1/19 - only 2 more true long runs to go!
Fuuuuck. You just gave me a heart attack with this. While it's true that I only have three true long runs left (18, 20, & 22), I also have a 15 w/12 @ MP and 17 that is part of a very important/gut check half marathon. I saw your number two and freaked the hell out. lol I'm really not sure why I thought this would be enough time to see my desired results. I give it 2-3 more weeks before I officially panic.

Hold off and see, but I think you have a shot at least. Maybe because I'm so much slower than you (so big improvements are easier), but I feel like I've seen a huge improvement in my running just since Chicago. I guess it's hard to say for sure before race day though. I have my next half on Sunday and that's going to be my barometer. I haven't decided if I'm going to run more on top of it, other than a mile or so to warm up a bit beforehand. Then just a 20, a 12-15, and a 22 before taper!

It's hard to tell right now, because with 3 double digit runs a week, I'm most definitely running on tired legs. I've hit all of my paces. I'm actually pretty excited for my 15 w/12@MP. My last long pace run was done in horrible winds, so while I more than nailed the paces, I'm hoping this one will feel better. I'm loving the bigger runs and the speed work built into them, even if they are a time suck.
What's helping me stay positive is that I know Chicago was just an off day for me. I felt significantly better at the start of RnR Savannah, and I think if I had run the full I was registered for, I would have knocked a few minutes off of my time. I was all, "Fuck yeah, fresh legs!!" At the start of Chicago, my legs were tired.
I'm normally identical to McMillan's predictions, and after plugging my Savannah half time in, he has me within 30 sec of a BQ. If I can take another minute or two off of my half time in December, I think I'll feel better. It's just flown by! I can't believe it's almost race time again.
Which marathon are you running and when? Albany Marathon on 3/1
Any AWs from the past week? Did you kill a Turkey Trot? Or maybe a pie or a bottle of wine? PR'ed and won my AG for my 5k Turkey Trot. Downed lots of food too.
It is now officially Christmas Cheer season. So, tell us about your favorite holiday traditions! We have lots that will begin this weekend with our tree and visiting Santa.
And last but not least, my 17 miler nearly killed me dead yesterday. It was miserable. Anyone have a secret to a good long run, or at least something that works for you most of the time? I am new to the really long runs so I can usually psych myself up with "This is going to make me a marathoner." And some good music.

Right there with you (minus the BQ, lol)! Chicago was totally an off day, my legs were beat, stomach hated me, etc. I haven't quite been doing Pfitz-level mileage, but I'm consistently in the mid to high 40s per week so much higher than last time around, and I feel like I'm recovering from my runs SO much better and quicker than I used to. I'm hoping this weekend was just a fluke due to traveling and not eating or sleeping normally. It's gone by VERY fast.
Which marathon are you running and when? Paris Marathon 6 April 2014
Any AWs from the past week? Did you kill a Turkey Trot? Or maybe a pie or a bottle of wine? Ran the Liverpool Santa Dash with 9000 santa claus bought a Garmin 210 and set a very tidy pace on it today (8:25/mile!)
It is now officially Christmas Cheer season. So, tell us about your favorite holiday traditions! I love going back to Australia for a hot Christmas, but this year we are staying in the UK and going to Ireland to see my husband's family. At least the potatoes will be amazing.
And last but not least, my 17 miler nearly killed me dead yesterday. It was miserable. Anyone have a secret to a good long run, or at least something that works for you most of the time? I haven't done any long runs yet (longest is the Half Marathon I did a week ago. I usually run with music though. And then if that fails, I promise myself something really tasty at the end, and then I think about that for a while.
Which marathon are you running and when? Albany Marathon on 3/1
Oh, shit! I totally forgot that I'm probably running this one as well. Lol
My running partner has a break 4:00 before baby plan, but she's had bad marathon luck. It should have been Chicago & then they were going to try, but she got a stress fracture. She set her new plan on Celebration, then she had walking pneumonia for 3 wks. She's now pushed it off to Albany & asked if I'd want to pace her. She's a much stronger runner than her times show. I think she falls apart mentally, so I'd love to be able to help her with that part & get her under 4:00. She's lucky I love her. I will have serious 26.2 burnout after this.
I still don't know, but I like to talk about myself, so I keep participating. Ha!
Any AWs from the past week? Did you kill a Turkey Trot? Or maybe a pie or a bottle of wine?
I ran last week!!!! And nothing hurt! I sure killed the Turkey Trot, if by killed it you mean "ran it slower than ever but still got 2nd in AG". I won't admit to how much wine and pie and vodka I also killed. It's shameful.
It is now officially Christmas Cheer season. So, tell us about your favorite holiday traditions!
Hmmm...we will go to a hot springs town with MIL and SIL for a few days before Christmas. All our other things are up in the air though, because for the first time since I was 13, I will NOT be in my hometown for Xmas Eve. It's stupid family bullshit, but we are going to be home, in our OWN house and I AM SO EXCITED. I need to think about fun things to do as new traditions.
And last but not least, my 17 miler nearly killed me dead yesterday. It was miserable. Anyone have a secret to a good long run, or at least something that works for you most of the time?
I don't even remember the last time I ran more than 13.1. Oh...wait...it was February. Holy shitballs, that's depressing. But when I do longer runs like that, I just break them up. My best run mentally was doing 10 by myself, coming home to pee and pick up DH and doing 7 more while he was on his bike to keep me company. Or I run 8 out and back in one direction, pee/drink and go 8 out and back in another direction.
