I am moving to Colorado in May but will be spending most of my December vacation there as well. I need to keep up with running over the break because I have a half back in Dallas in February. I've
lived in Texas my whole life and so far the biggest challenge in Colorado has been the altitude. What about my footwear though? The roads will be icy(ish) some days and I don't want to fall but I'm so attached to my current running shoes (asics gel nimbus). Also, what's the best base layer to keep warm?
I run in the mornings in Western NYS, so lots of ice at times- and the black ice in early a.m. even when roads don't have snow.
For icy conditions I love my Stabilicers. I use YakTrax sometimes for walking the dog, but the coil placement caused me foot pain for running. The Stabilicers pull right on your regular running shoes and they work great.

under armour has great base layers. I usually wear a tank, a long sleeved warm wicking shirt, and then my nike jacket. I have LLL running tights. if its super cold, ill wear wind pants over my tights. hat or ear warmer/headband, gloves, and warm socks. I went running yesterday and my feet felt like bricks because they were numb and frozen.
Stabilicers are great and very helpful in snow, ice, slush, etc. A good base pant and a long sleeved wicking shirt (I like the fleece lined ones for really cold days) under either a vest or a wind breaker. Then running gloves (they have grips on the fingers so you can still work your iPod, etc) and I like a headband for my ears versus a hat (hats make me feel like I overheat). Have fun!
The hardest for me is my asthma gets worse in the super cold, so I always make sure I have a full inhaler with me!
