This is the same as the "smoking is a personal choice" argument to me. I hate them both.
Ugh yes!! I hate that! I hate walking out of the mall or a restaurant and having to walk through a crowd of smokers. It's disgusting. The other night dh and I went to a movie and walking out people were all standing at the doors smoking and we had to walk by them to get to the parking lot. I was pissed. I don't care if they smoke, just do it somewhere not everyone has to breath it in, at least move to the side of the building or something.

How do the smoking laws in QC compare to ON? Here you can't smoke within 10m of a door, at least, you're not supposed to.
But yeah, I very much dislike that argument from the anti-vax'ers.
I am going to use the smoking argument next time. I have a co-worker who doesn't have kids and was arguing with me because she has a "friend who had done research." Sounds good.

Did you ask if her friend had then ignored that research?
The worst thing is, they're not making the "personal choice" for themselves--they're making it for their children. They're not only gambling other kids' lives, they're gambling their own.

LOL. Exactly.
It is really more like " I'm making a personal choice to bring diseases like measles and pertussis back from extinction."

She was all, some people don't want to inject aborted embryo flesh into such a tiny being...
It did say monkey kidney culture or something on that link.
It's not like Hannibal Lechter is cooking up Soylent Green. Yes, there are aborted embryo cells in vaccines, but they're not currently killing babies to make more vaccines!

Do people not understand the difference between cells and flesh? It's not like Hannibal Lechter is cooking up Soylent Green. Yes, there are aborted embryo cells in vaccines, but they're not currently killing babies to make more vaccines!
I dont really understand it all lol. It does sound gross and weird, but I dont think there chunks of flesh floatin around in there like they make it seem!

They use cell lines to grow the vaccines. Some have been animal-based, but in the 60s they began using cells from an aborted fetus for at least some of the vaccines. If a fetus had been aborted for that particular reason, I would have a serious problem with it, but I doubt that's what happened.
You know what pisses me off... in my local library last night I had asked about the wonderful book recommendation that @thedahliaharpa gave me and they didn't have the book "it's too new". So I went to the section where the autism books are and there were maybe 10 books, 2 may have been helpful back in the 90's, the others were Jenny McCarthy and others like her of the hate spewed, vaccines cause Autism shit. That pisses me off.

That is very disappointing. Ignorant people will go there and think Jenny McCarthy is a credible source because of all her books. They need to get hip with the times.
I really like her in movies, (stupid dumb humor makes me laugh) but that is what she should stick to! I don't think that being a celebrity and having a son with autism makes you an expert.
Has there not been any books specifically targeted to her lame books that discredit them? Where are they!

I'm sure there are books but they are "too new" for our podunk of a library (which is part of a much larger library system). I bet if I go to the main library that has the autism resource center I could find much more. But in my town full of ignorant wannabe rednecks, no there isn't. Ugg.

Can you request that they purchase more? I know my library allows people to place requests for books.

I might DD this, but my SIL is one of the non vaxers and she is CERTAIN that her "research" is correct and she's making an informed choice. I absolutely hate it. I've tried to nicely steer her otherwise, but it will not happen. And I don't want to argue about it. But my kids haven't had to spend a lot of time with her son either. But the killer thing is, she smokes, and smoked during her pregnancy. So you won't put LIFE SAVING "chemicals" into your son's body, but you would put him at risk for birth defects for smoking while pregnant? And for smoking still? Also, she struggled a LONG time with infertility, so that medicine was good and acceptable to help you, but vaccines are evil? I do not understand.
I was super hesitant to vaccinate before I had Lou. Then I started researching and losing sleep over it and realized vaccinations are the way to go.
There is so much crap out there and it's really sad, because people (including me) read it.
I don't think that's bad. I was hesitant too, before I educated myself with the correct info.
I was hesitant even after his first round of shots- but then I realized I was being a FTM extra worrier, and that not vaxing is dumb.
I did delay Hep B at birth and didn't do rotavirus for the girls because Elias had bad reactions from it. But I don't think that's the same...
It's when people don't vax at all, don't follow any schedule and act like they are doing a justice to their children, that really bugs me. I upsets me because they are choosing to not educate themselves, and it puts their kids and others at risk, and they are so ridiculous that they don't get that. Like how can they hear about all the recurring outbreaks and not think they are being irresponsible??

Ahhhhhhhhhh the stupidity is making my stomach hurt.
I know so many smart, well-educated people who are swayed by the anti-vaxxers and i just. can't. Fear outweighs reason so often. And why are we more afraid of a vax reaction than death from a disease?

No because even though they have The Reason I Jump at several of their other libraries, they will not send it to this one even though they do that with other books. "It's too new" is the reason. I don't think it is a very valid reason.
I feel like people don't take vaccinations for their kids because those disease are practically instinct around here, but the side effects seem more realistic than getting polio?..they need to understand polio isn't a huge threat anymore because of the vaccines.

I went to a lecture on vaccines and this was brought up. One person can rant and rave and create doubt among millions that something is bad for you. And actually it has been going on as long as there have been vaccines. There are old comics making fun of the vaccine for cow pox or something, I can't remember exactly, turning you into a cow.
He also brought up that parents are not going to come up and say they withheld vaccines and because of that they son/daughter caught a disease and was harmed or died. Because they are wrong in that case and nobody wants to be humiliated in public.
