So I've been back in the exercise mode for about a month now. I started with C25K, and am still doing that 3x / week. I also just joined a gym, and have tried out yoga and spin classes - so far, so good!
I do want to get in some strength training, but am trying to figure out the best way to do so. As of now, I'm "running" 3x / week, and I want to do 1 spin class and either a yoga or Pilates class every week, too.
Would going to 1 ST-focused class (Body pump or the like) round everything out well, or should I plan on adding something to a day I'm already there for a cardio / yoga class?
I think strength training is important, but I also don't think you have to do it in the best way. I just do what works best with my schedule that week. Sometimes it means doing two separate workouts and other times it means I can get everything in at the same time. For example, my ideal plan would be to run and then bang out strength training. But right now there is at least one day a week where I do two separate workouts because it is too dark to run outside after work.
I agree with the others: incorporate it in what works best for your schedule. I do yoga and running 2 days per week, spin and weights 2 days per week, and do a long run on the weekend. That's the only way I can get everything into my schedule and my schedule is dictated by the yoga and spin class schedule.
Sometimes I do an extra DVD at home if I feel like I need more strength training - usually something body-weight centered.
