A group of my girlfriends and I signed up as a team for the DC Nike half and found out yesterday we did not get in We are all newbie runners and this half will be a first for all except me. We are in Philly and don't want to stay local, would prefer to get away for the weekend, max distance 2 hours. Any suggestions? Also if it is one that doesn't fill up crazy fast as in "we can wait till after holidays to register since everyone is broke" that would be even better. Thanks ladies!
What about Pittsburgh? It's May 4th, a bit further away but it's an awesome race, it's my first half! A bunch of friends of mine are also running it.
Sounds fun, I would love to visit there but that is my daughter's birthday and same day as Broad Street Run which is a big ten miler in our city, I am sure they all plan to run that as well. Keep 'em coming!
Rock N' Roll DC Iron Girl half in MD is just outside of DC and a fun, but hilly race They are 10 miles, not 13.1, but you could try for the Cherry Blossom lottery or Broad Street run Pittsburgh Marathon ( I think that is actually more than 2 hrs, but so is DC )
^^Halfs organized by state. I have no idea what spring half I'm going to do (waiting to see which weekend my 13 mile long run will fall in my HIM training plan) but that's where I go to look for them.
Based on what you’re describing, I think the Iron Girl Half in Columbia, MD would be a good choice:
1)Same time frame as Nike Women’s Half 2)All women’s race 3)Columbia is right in between DC and Baltimore, meaning you and your girlfriends could take a trip to either city (if you stay the weekend, I’d suggest DC on Saturday, and then maybe checking out Baltimore on your way home Sunday…hit up the Inner Harbor and grab lunch)
While I didn’t run this specific race I did another Iron Girl Race (a tri in Western MD) this past September that is run by the same organization (TriColumbia), and it was primarily groups of girlfriends who trained, traveled, and raced together. So I think you and your friends would have a great time.
Although being originally from NJ, I'd say you should just go with the half in AC. Ha.
