My friend at work wants to throw me a little party at work to do the gender reveal when I find out in the next couple weeks. The plan is for it to be super tacky and inappropriate. For example, she's looking at making one of those vagina cakes with the baby doll head crowning. Basically I'm expecting it to be a bit raunchy.
We work for a women's organization and 99% of the staff is female. I don't think that anyone would really be offended. Still, we'll probably do everything in one of our offices instead of in a conference room and probably just keep it to our team. Does that sound okay?
ETA: our org is something like Planned Parenthood, so things like birth control and genitalia are around the office. Just providing some context.
Um no. I dislike the idea of sex reveals in general and work would not be an appropriate place to do one. I would just pass out pink or blue cupcakes if you felt the need...
It would not be okay for a bunch of ladies to have a penis cake at work. It would not be okay for a bunch of men to have a boob cake at work. It's not okay for a bunch of women to have a vagina cake at work.
I cried when we found out it was a boy. Would you be finding out this way too? Honestly, I wouldn't want to have that moment with a bunch of coworkers and a raunchy cake.

No, I will find out beforehand. I agree that would not be how I would want to find out initially. Once I find out I will tell my coworker so she can decorate. It will be easy if it's a boy because she's done a ton of bachelorette parties and has all that stuff. We should take it to a bar after work. This is going to be so funny.

A bar after work sounds better.
I think a small gender reveal at work is fine (colored cupcakes or whatever), but a raunchy cake is a bad idea for an office party. An informal gathering of coworkers at a non-work location sounds just fine.
Totally not my thing, but my DW used to work at a similar organization and that sort of humor would not have been an issue there. You work in a unique environment and can't really depend on general internet etiquette to tell you if it's ok or not. Taking it to the bar does sound like a safe plan.
While it's NMS, I think that only you know your work environment. I know it wouldn't fly in my workplace. You and at least one coworker seem excited about it, if you think your other coworkers would be receptive, I say do it. I will say I think taking something like that to a bar seems a little weird. I wouldn't want to be eating a penis cake in a public place, lol. And perhaps I'm just old, but bars are way to loud for gatherings to me.
Eh, vagina cakes are NMS but it sounds like with your office culture, it wouldn't be all that weird or crude. But doing it at a bar sounds like more fun anyway, so I'd probably advocate for that.
