Run a spring marathon. Been going back and forth with the idea. I want to on one hand because I like the training and it gives me a goal. All the marathon Monday posts make me want to. Then I think winter, cold, snow, and second guess. Maybe just doing a half is enough. What should I do? Just commit? Also any suggestions for one? Aiming for April and close to MD.
did you have a kid recently? am I confusing you with someone else?
I've never birthed any babies but it might not be the best idea to train for a marathon with an infant.
what kind of base do you have now? is this your first marathon?
Yeah, there is the infant factor! My husband is supportive and I do have a strong running background. I wouldn't attack the training gunning to PR. Just toying with the idea...
Well I don't mind running in the snow and cold, but what does scare me about spring marathons is you train in the cold and 75 can feel awfully warm after running in the cold. I've only done a half that ended up being effin' hot, but it was miserable.
From what I remember, you have a really solid running background and a strong PR, correct? This is your first baby though, yes? Go ahead and laugh at that last question, because I know NOTHING about training with a baby, I'm just curious.
I'm usually a bite the bullet and do it type of person. Maybe set your sites on one that isn't likely to fill up quickly. If you do it that way, you can start to feel out what training with a baby would be like before you actually have to register. Runblondie just had a baby and she's signed up for Boston in April. I don't think it's so crazy, but again, zero kid experience here.
I couldn't physically or emotionally train for a marathon before 6 months while breastfeeding. Long runs hurt my supply, and being gone that long really wasn't that appealing for me. I also had babies that didn't sleep. If you aren't EBF and your baby sleeps, ignore me I would think about what the rush is though. If you don't have a strong reason to run this particular race (like @runblondie and Boston), I'd look for a half to crush, and do a Fall marathon.
Why not try a half before jumping into a whole? Even if you feel awesome, babies do crazy things to your body and I wouldn't want to push too hard too fast.
Would you be open to a late spring marathon? I just realized that April would push you into training in the next couple of weeks. I was thinking of my spring race when I did't start until late Feb, but that race was the first week of June. Do you feel up for that many mpw right now? How many are you able to do?

There is no way I could've trained for a full marathon before my kid was one. Too little sleep, not enough time, and my long training runs wouldn't have meshed with BFing. I would aim for the fall.

That's awesome you're even considering it. If you're feeling the itch to run one, then go for it. You have a strong running background and worked out through pregnancy, so you have what it takes mentally and physically.
I'm really excited to get back to running. A full marathon...not feeling all that excited about it. There's a big jump in training required for a full and it seems like a lot right now. I've got just a little bit of stuff going on at home presently, lol.
A half marathon would be perfect, but alas I've committed to Boston and will do what it takes to get 'er done.
It would be nice to have someone to commiserate with should you decide to run one

I'm thinking cinco was right in that if I had a big race, like Boston, then if would be one thing but I'd just be randomly picking race. You'll do another marathon in the fall so we can commiserate then .

Didn't you mention possibly doing the B&A? I hope I am not confusing you with someone else. Because you can register for the half and bump it up if you really start to feel motivated. I know nothing about training with a baby, so I'll let everyone else give the advice there, haha!

Yeah, I'm signed up for B&A. I guess I could bump up but I think B&A would be a pretty boring marathon. Isn't it just an out and back course?
