I just read somewhere that prenatal visits count as preventative care under the ACA and therefore copays/deductibles/etc. don't apply. Is that true? Pregnants, what has your experience been so far? Is this something that is already in place or that doesn't kick in until 2014?
I know that my insurance considers it preventative care but it worked with our deductible and we had no copays. We had to pay $2k to my OB's office that included appts, ultrasounds and delivery and since we had met our deductible, we got the money we paid to the OB refunded.
The way my policy is written I don't pay to see them or for sonograms. I do pay for my hospital visit, and I can't remember if it's considered a co-pay or a deductible. I don't pay enough attention.
I haven't paid anything yet except the deductible to my OB to hold and one $40 copay to see the MFM. I had paid quite a lot by this point with C. I have better insurance now though and I'll probably get hit with some large ass bills after he gets here.
I don't pay copays for prenatal visits. I only pay copays for ultrasounds, lab work and urinalysis. At delivery, I have a hospital copay and if a c-section is needed I have a surgical copay.
