So if you get an "upgraded" wedding or engagement ring, do you replace your original or wear on your right hand? Do you still wear your original ring but put it on your right hand? I've never known somebody with an upgraded ring but I have known some who get a different, nicer ring but put it on their right hand.

Since DH proposed when we were so young, let's just say it wasn't exactly what I wanted to call my "forever ring". So shortly before our wedding(2 year engagement) I got a whole new set. I used my first/old ring for trade in value towards the new set. I took one last picture with it on and said goodbye. Haha.
My mom got her ring upgraded and she kept her old one because it was a completely different setting. She just switches between wearing them both. None on her right hand though.
My mom has upgraded three times. She kept the stones from all of them...one is in a necklace, one she had matched for earrings, and the last she hasn't reset yet. If/when I do it, I will trade in the diamond and get a semiprecious stone to place in the setting for right hand wear. Not likely though since the only stone I want to trade up for is a 2 carat cushion cut and those things are $$$! Good thing I love my original
Where DH got my ring, you can trade in the center stone to upgrade that so I will trade in and go bigger. My ring has a halo around the center stone so I will eventually have to get the ring remade somehow

I don't wear my original ring. I will upgrade again and will probably trade in my current setting. The price we paid at Jareds goes to a new ring if we upgrade there.
My mom kept her stone and just upgraded the setting and added side stones. Her BFF upgraded her center stone and kept her original stone as a side stone. Their other friend got an entirely new ring and had the original stone made into a necklace.
