I just bought a "zero" birthday candle to take to the hospital with us. We'll stick it in a mini cupcake, sing, and let DD blow it out on her baby sister's behalf (and then eat the cupcake). I am irrationally excited about this plan.
We had a full cake that said "Happy BIRTHday HJ!" And the date that we put the candle in, took pictures with, and then are and shared with our nurses if they wanted some. Originally I wanted to do a cupcake, but my mom was so excited over finally knowing that she had a granddaughter (team green) that she bought a cake instead.

That's adorable! And cake is awesome. My not necessarily silly, but definitely overpriced, purchase was the newborn photo session at the hospital. Given that we never finished our wedding photo album (married in 2009), it seemed like a good idea to buy the baby announcement while we were here. But I know we could do it much more cheaply with DIY photos and Shutterfly.
My mom bought my baby girl the American Girl of the year since she is from my hometown. And I bought her a puffy down-like vest since my husband insisted that she needed one! (He loves coats so it's his thing!) Both of those are pretty silly!
So cute! I want cake too...I think a cake is better than a cupcake though. You will have just given birth and will deserve a darned cupcake and I'm sure your DD will be wanting to eat it...SO big cake for everyone and maybe your H can have some if he is nice, no? Seriously a cute idea though!

Lol. My c-section is scheduled for the day after my birthday and I probably won't be allowed solid foods yet. But I'm sure DD will happily eat the mini cupcake :-)
That is such a cute idea. And remembering how much I was craving sweets after labour, I think I would need more than just a cupcake or my grils wouldn't get a single bite, lol
