So work is offering for the first time Short Term Disability. It is voluntary and employee paid. They don't have any official info to give us on the coverage except up to 13 weeks and 60% of pay up to $600 a week. The only info I have is: " STD pays a percentage of your salary if you become disabled, meaning that you are not able to work for a short of time due to sickness or injury". To me that does not sound like maternity leave is covered. Open enrollment is till next week and it would be nice to know the exact details before I throw money into something I have no clue if it will get use out of.
Ditto the pps. Maternity is almost always covered under group policies but you should receive additional info if you ask. If HR isn't helpful try calling the carrier.
Is it through the state? In NJ I have STD - it covers 4 weeks prior to delivery and 6/8 weeks after delivery. I would ask for paperwork showing exactly what is covers before signing up.
