i like the black since it blends into your countertops. i might think differently if you didn't have black counters, but in this case save your money.

Normally I'm all for SS but because of how your kitchen is designed with the seperate oven, I voted for a black cooktop so that it all blends.

I'd do black as it's just a cooktop, not a whole oven/stove unit.

I hate cleaning the black cooktop on my otherwise stainless range, so I would say stainless. Even with a black counter. The stainless parts of our range are much easier to clean.
