I'm going to a cookie swap this weekend! I think I am going to make these. They seem easy enough and I always tend to get in over my head with the type of cookie I make. I'm going for simple this year but I am going to put them in cute packaging in hopes of winning that category!
I'm not sure if I'll get around to other baking. My sister always has a cookie decorating party so I don't bother making cut outs like I used to.
I'm goign to a cookie swap next weekend too! I LOVE these cookies: lemon ginger drop cookies. They're very simple but the flavors are excellent. Technique is important, so follow the instructions.
Stingyshark, I am NOT a baker, so it's kind of funny for me to host this thing, but it's an excuse to get together with girlfriends and drink wine (or, smell the wine in their glasses). Also, I plan to take advantage of the stretchy pants this holiday season -- big time.
I'm not baking this year. I usually make spritz cookies (those pressed ones with a little almond flavor), some sort of gingerbread or spiced cookie cutter cookie, and five layer bars (those things with a graham cracker crust, coconut, pecans, evaporated milk, and chocolate chips).
Paula Deens ginger cookies. I have swapped margarine for shortening but never tried butter. I usually bump up the seasoning a bit. m.foodnetwork.com/recipes/31306
I also love these southern living cookies. I will post the recipe in a second

Dec 6, 2013 at 10:10am Also I altered a southern living Christmas recipe that were originally for white chocolate raisin cookies. I sub cranberries.
1 c all purpose flour 1/2 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1/4 tsp salt 1/2 c plus 2 Tbsp softened unsalted butter 1/2 c granulated sugar 1/2 c firmly packed brown sugar 1 large egg 1 tsp fiori di sicilia or orange extract 1 c uncooked oats 8 oz chopped white chocolate 1/2 c dried cranberries
Combine first 4 ingredients. Cream butter and sugars. Beat in egg and orange flavoring until just combined. Add flour and oats; stir til blended. Add cranberries and chocolate. Cover and chill 1 hr.
Line 2 large baking sheets w parchment paper. Drop by heaping tablespoons 3" apart
Bake @ 350 13-15 min until lightly browned. Yield 2 1/2 dozen cookies.
During today's snow day, I made 4 different types of dough and froze the cookies into portions (pecan balls, jam thumbprints, salted oatmeal cookies, and choc crinkles filled w/peanut butter). Woohoo! I have more baking ahead of me,including the prep for these frozen cookies, but this is the first time I'm baking in advance and freezing dough.
