What was the first food? Did you start with a cereal, purees, or more of a BLW approach?
Did you do anything to help baby prepare for solids (eat with him at table, etc.)?
B's pedi said we could introduce after his 4 month appt, and that it might help with his weight gain, but I feel like I always heard babies start to taper off on weight gain once solids come in? I'm leaning more toward waiting, but I'm curious to hear what other families have done.
-5 months -Started with rice cereal, but she was pretty meh. -Started purees next (pouches/jars - not homemade bc I'm lazy) around 5.5 months. I think sweet potatoes was the first. Maybe squash. -She ate in a bumbo on the kitchen table at first, but we moved to a high chair soon after.
She's 6mo 1w now and we do half a pouch/jar at daycare around noon and the other half at 6.
ETA: She's still not wild about the consistency of purees. I stir a scoop of rice cereal into it most times to thicken it up and she prefers that much, much more.
I don't exactly remember. I think it was oatmeal with some banana stirred in. I was never the food police/worried about it, so we moved along to all sorts of things pretty fast. We made it not even a month on purees before we moved onto some homemade baby led weaning approach. She just wasn't into purees but would eat "regular" food like crazy.
Not really. I just felt like she was either ready or she wasn't. There wasn't much to do about it. We started because she was sucking down SO much bottle and hungry all the time. We always have sat by her/watched her eat etc.
She was screaming at dinner so we handed her some turkey. She loved it. I only do something once a day or so. She's sat with us (on) the table for meals since birth.

We started 3 days ago (5m1w). We decided to go with purees - sweet potatoes. She is still unsure, but it's only been a couple of days. I am going to try a few more veggies and then add in oatmeal. She's been sitting in her highchair playing for a few weeks and I gave her a spoon about a week before solids so she could chew on it. Nothing else to help her prep!
5 months 1 week Started with oatmeal with banana He didn't open his mouth for the first 10 days pretty much Now he eats like a third of a pouch for breakfast and goes through a pouch every two days at day care We tried a little banana but then I freaked out. Tried again but he doesn't really understand feeding himself.
What was the first food? Did you start with a cereal, purees, or more of a BLW approach? Oatmeal (had an allergic reaction) so went to homemade fruits & veggies for 2 months, then started chunks. By 10 months she was eating what we were eating
Did you do anything to help baby prepare for solids (eat with him at table, etc.)? I started putting DD in her highchair at 5 months when I was in the kitchen and let her play so she would get use to the chair and then she would be in the chair when we ate dinner.
6 months Started with Avocado We're doing a mix of purees and BLW. I generally feed a jar and then have things she can play with as well. Peas, strips of steamed sweet potato, cucumber. I used the wholesomebabyfood.com website for a list of things to introduce when just to give me ideas of new foods. She's been pretty happy with everything except oatmeal. She is not a fan.
We did avocado, some rice cereal, sweet potatoes, bananas - some puree and some whole pieces. I did more purees at first, now she's really into feeding herself so we do a mix of pouches and pieces of fruit, veggie, pasta, bread, cereal, etc. I spoon feed oatmeal when she has that for breakfast.
She only ate once a day (and some days we skipped) at first. First she only ate breakfast or dinner, then we did both, then I added something for lunch around 7.5-8 months or so? Now she typically eats 3 meals + a snack in the afternoon. (And still nurses several times a day, she hasn't dropped any nursing sessions yet.)
I wasn't in a big rush to start solids, because it's much easier before you're also toting food around for them. And I don't really like spoon feeding (just because I'm impatient and it's messy!), and the diapers get way grosser.
DD1 4.5 months, DD2 just yesterday she will be 6 months tomorrow)
We started DD1 with rice cereal and DD2 with banana. I REALLY like the idea of BLW but I have a history of food allergy so I am not comfortable with starting more than one thing at a time. I also want to start with items least likely to be potential allergens first so I give purees, waiting 4 days in between introducing new foods to see if there is a reaction.
We didn't really do anything special to prepare either kiddo. DD1 was excited to have solids when we introduced them and DD2 has been clearly ready for a while so she was thrilled that we finally gave in, lol.
What was the first food? Did you start with a cereal, purees, or more of a BLW approach? We started with mashed up banana and she LOVED it. We have been doing purees and are now trying to add table food at 9 months
Did you do anything to help baby prepare for solids (eat with him at table, etc.)? Not really. She took to the purees really well. We are now having a hard time with the transition to table food though.
When did you introduce? 6 months and a few days (waited until after his 6 month well visit)
What was the first food? Did you start with a cereal, purees, or more of a BLW approach? We've done BLW from the start. First "meal" was avocado and apple slices. Since then he's had a whole variety of things - his favorite food has been chicken shawarma. How much he eats still varies - sometimes it's a lot and sometimes he just plays. He's just starting to get his pincher grasp down.
Did you do anything to help baby prepare for solids (eat with him at table, etc.)? Not really - he'd sat in the high chair a few times but not consistently.
