We watched a documentary on Netflix tonight called Somm. It is about a group of people preparing to take the Master Sommelier exam, which is apparently insanely difficult. I thought it was really interesting, so if you like wine and documentaries you should check it out!
OH! It's finally out!? I have been wanting to see this. I have my first level and know several people who are certified. A friend of mine has his advanced and is going for his master next fall. It's SO much work!

It looks insane! The amount of knowledge these people are expected to have on every aspect of wine is incredible. I was blown away by the blind tastings as well.

When people ask me if I plan on going back to school (I have a bachelor's), I tell them that studying for the certified somm exam is my advanced degree. Honestly, studying for the master level exam is probably akin to doctoral level research and study, if not harder. The amount of knowledge they're required to have is just incredible.
I wanted to punch the fourth guy in the face - the one that never passed. He was such an asshat.
He was actually my favorite. He wasn't in the "boys club" the other guys have, and I can relate. I work better alone. I didn't like the guy with brown hair AT ALL. I thought he was a giant dick. I really liked the other two.
Thanks for the rec, I just watched it this morning!

Really? When he was describing the one wine in the blind tasting and he was like "It was awesome. It was nasty. It was fungal" I literally shouted "You're an asshat!" at the TV lol.
I wanted to dislike the blonde guy, but I found him attractive so I was balancing my dislike with my desire to bone him lol.
But I think my lasting impression of this doc is: I'm so glad I just drink wine for the joy of drinking wine.
