Do you defrost meat in the microwave?

I forgot to pull chicken out and I want chicken and dumplings tonight.  Can I put it in the microwave?  How long?  Should I just put it in the sink with cold water?

I find warm water trick works in about 20/30 minutes. the microwave tends to cook the edges when I try to defrost that way. And MrJJ says there is a taste difference. (I don't eat it).

I would do the cold water bath myself if time allows. Something about defrosting in the microwave skeeves me out a little....

Yeah, I hate the weird cooked edges. I do the cool water bath, and change the water a few times.

I usually just put it in a Ziplock bag in a sink of cold water. It should take a few hours to thaw.

I do, my microwave has a defrost setting for a variety of meats.  I prefer the water method.  It doesn't take that long and I don't get cooked meat

I defrost it in hot water. I've done this for 10 years and never been harmed by it.
