I'm almost done with a collection of short stories by Russell Banks called "A Permanent Member of the Family." I read everything he writes...and love when short stories are done well. In the car I'm listening to Burial Rites by Hannah Kent, which is set in Iceland in the 1800s and is about a "murderess." It is a great audiobook, if for no other reason than I get to hear the narrator pronounce all these crazy Icelandic words.
Oooh - I also just finished the Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion and I loved it. It was this year's version of Where'd you Go, Bernadette, meaning I laughed out loud more times than I can count.
I think I'm going to read Dave Eggers' new book The Circle next. Or maybe the new Amy Tan.
I'm so sad to admit that I am not reading anything.
If it makes you feel better I opened this post to see what I could possibly read one day in the magical future I envision where my kid sleeps through the night and so do I. Lol
"You. You and your crazy life. You and your geographic anomaly. You and your drunken lesbianic ways and terrible navigational skills." - ProfArt and her holy baby
I'm sad that all my friends on Goodreads read crappy books. So not my style. I like to check out what they are reading to get ideas on what I can add to my list. Very rarely do I find a good one. They read that YA ramance crap. Barf.
I'm reading A Feast for Crows...which is the 4th book of the GoT installment. I have a few other books waiting to be read on my kindle but since I have started with A Game of Thrones I haven't read anything else. I may be a tad obsessed.
I had to step away from this series for a bit. I think I'm on the 4th book as well (maybe the 3rd) but man they are long.
I just finished Eleanor and Park, which was fantastic. And The Lowland a couple weeks ago, which was absolutely amazing. Seriously. I think about it all the time now.
I can't decide if I should read Bringing up the Bodies or Master of Disguise next.
Man, I have to stop reading these threads - my book wishlist is getting ridiculously long. Right now I'm reading The Returned, by Jason Mott. I read it earlier this summer, but sped through it too quickly. The premise is pretty simple - what happens when people that died come back to life, not as zombies but just as they were the day they died? - but the narrative is poetic and thoughtful and pretty beautiful. I'm expecting pretty big things from Mott in the future.
I had such high hopes for this book, and I'm just let down. I actually haven't finished it yet and I've started reading other stuff. It's just not pulling me in like I thought it would

Yeah, the narrative is a bit slow. I'm enjoying the characterizations, though, and the subtlety in which he's weaving some story lines together. I'm also liking the questions he's sort of leaving hanging, too - normally this would drive me nuts, but for a topic this... metaphysical, it seems fitting.
ALSO, Omar Epps will be playing Agent Bellamy in the TV series. He's exactly who I pictured while reading the book, so I am pleased
