I have an appointment next week with a mal practice attorney just to talk to him. I just don't want to be one of those suehappy people, you know? I have most of the dr. records. I'm just waiting for more to be mailed to me.

something happened to cause you to lose your ability to walk. we aren't talking about a crazy claim.
Thanks ladies! I am just so upset because before I was born my mom was told I probably wouldn't be able to walk and I beat the odds. Now I can't walk or do anything, including working my dream job I landed 3 years ago. This is such a nightmare!I just wanted to make sure I wasn't over reacting.

You're not overreacting at all. It isn't like they left a 2 inch scar when they said it would be 1 inch or something frivolous. A serious complication came from it and you have every right to pursue this. I wish you the best of luck and hope you have a good outcome all around!

It depends on what your paper work said that you signed. What were the risks and complications? I have sued and successfully win a med mal case but my case did not involve surgery. Your best bet is to gather every piece of evidence (paper) you have and take it to a lawyer and have it evaluated.
The most concerning art to me is that the doctor never came back to talk to you. No one explained to you WHY you suddenly can't walk. I would talk to an attorney.

This is where I am at. Almost like a guilt thing. Would a lawyer try to find a dr to tie it all together or would it be my job to find a dr to say I can't walk because of this surgery? I'm so so upset about all of this. I am going to see another urologist today so hopefully she can help.
I think your headed in the right direction and taking all the necessary steps (attorney, other drs opinions)and yes, I would sue if the other experts agree you have a case. Sorry, this obstacle was thrown your way.
I would definitely talk to a malpractice attorney. Your surgeon never came back to see you after the surgery and you had no follow-up appointments? Plus a complication as severe as this? You need to seek legal recourse.

First, I am so sorry this happened to you. I agree with the other posters - completely unacceptable for the doctor not to have followed up with you and I would absolutely speak to an attorney. Have the other doctors you've seen since the procedure been able to at least help you manage pain? Again, I'm sorry this is happening. Hang in there.

If the lawyer takes your case he will send you to his own doctors who are "experts" who will testify in court. So even if you do go to another dr you may still go to another. The defense can also send you to their dr. They can send you to a dr with in 75 miles or then they have to pay you so much for every mile after and/or for parking after.
Thanks everyone for the advice. I am meeting with an attorney next week to see what he says. I just wanted to make sure I'm not overreacting. Walking with a walker is not easy and I do not wish this on my worst enemy. Thanks again for the advice. I'll update if I can and when I know something!
It's certainly worth consulting with a med mal attorney to see if you have a case that is worth pursuing. Sometimes things go wrong with surgery that are not due to any fault of the surgeon or other medical provider, as there are inherent risks with any procedure. I would go ahead and get copies of all medical records to take to an attorney to have them assess your case.
