More a point for discussion, but H keeps complaining about the doorknobs for the bedrooms. They're ugly beat up brass but I was going to spray them ORB. He says we should just replace them because they don't "work". They successfully twist and shut, but am I missing something? I asked him to explain how they're not working and he says they're just not.
I think he wants to replace them because changing a doorknob is one of the three house skills he's mastered so far and he wants to feel like he's accomplished something.

Haha well tell him it can come from his fun money and not your D&R fund. My H has the tendency to want to fix instead of replace, then we end up spending money to fix AND replace because it doesn't work. So the "fix" stuff is his deal.
He got really frustrated when I asked him to explain how they didn't work. I think Tarheels has it right - he just wants new ones. We only use one of the bedrooms, so I don't think it's an urgent matter. I think I'll present it as "we can either buy new doorknobs this month, or you can get your grill. "
I tried spray painting one earlier today and it was a hot mess. JennaSue made it look so easy! FAIL. I'll have to keep my eye out for a deal on them. $10 each doesn't sound bad.
It really isn't too expensive to replace the door knobs with new ones and I'm honestly pretty cheap. When we moved in, there were 4 different types of door knobs on the doors in our house! So, we bought all new ones.
The closet knobs were only like $9 and the bath/bedroom (with a lock) were about $12 for the Kwikset brand brushed nickel knobs. For 6 bed/bath doors and 3 closets, we spent about $99.
Yup we ordered new door knobs for the whole house even for the spaces we're not remodeling yet. But we're also getting new doors for the whole house so it makes sense to order new knobs we actually like. We went ahead and got them all at once so they won't discontinue that style by the time we get around to the other renovations and because we got free shipping by ordering them all together. I also had a hard time finding round door knobs with a rectangular backplate that looked craftsman style at an affordable price. I ended up getting them from handlesets.com.
