Has anyone done a fence against a fence? We want to fence in our back yard, and the people next door have some very large dangerous aggressive dogs. They have been ordered to fix the gate and fence, but they just ignore the fines. The fence has a few large holes, not big enough for the dogs next door to escape, but big enough for trouble with toddlers. We want to be able to use the back yard, and thinking of getting a dog of our own. We are thinking of doing a privacy fence, I want something extra between the spots they have damage.
We have some local fence places coming out in the new year, but is there anything we need to ask about since we want it against the other one?

I would ask about maintaining the fences if they're back to back. Have you considered asking the neighbors if you can tear down their fence along that portion and put up a new fence?

Yeah we asked, even offered to pay, but they won't let us. It would clash they claim, with the rest of the fence. We are willing to move our fence back so there would be a small walk way. The way the house is set up the there is a walk way of about 3 to 4 feet. So we could set it up with a small walk way between them. I just want as much protection between us and the dogs.
They're concerned your new privacy fence would clash with their dilapidated fence? Dang, your neighbors suck. I'm sorry
They do suck, major suck, like I hate them so much suck. The front of the house looks great, the backyard is dirt and dog crap. I am a huge animal lover, and I feel so bad for these dogs. Not enough to not fence in the yard. These dogs are large powerful, and in the right hands would of made wonderful pets, but thanks to the handling they did get, would be put to sleep. They are not safe in any form, or way. I know they are breeding, but I almost think the type of dog, scars I seen, and the back yard, might also be fighting. Before anyone thinks I just afraid or living up to the stereotype of mean big dogs, the dogs have escaped 3 times. First time they mauled and killed my renters cat who was outside in the well made cat house. They also tried to attack him but he was able to get inside and shut the door. Second time animal control came and got it before any damage was done. The third time, the male got out and was mauling a smaller puppy. My renter called the cops, and the dog turned and started attacking the police who shot the dog. They rescued 8 puppies, 2 males, and the momma dog, who almost ripped out her own throat trying to save her pups. They were ordered to fix the gate and fence to get the female dog back. They haven't and we have called 4 times, to complain about new male dogs. We are moving back most likely this coming year, and no way we are not re-fencing the back yard.
A couple things to consider: The no mans land between the two fences - who will maintain it? That area will collect trash and grow weeds. The fence companies may require so many feet of clearance to install the new fence, ask them about it Check with the city/county you are in. They may have fencing standards and may not allow back to back fencing or certain types. They may also require a permit.
I've pondered the same questions on development projects and my parents are dealing w/ uncooperative neighbors on their fence.
I know when my sister was planning on putting a privacy fence next to her neighbors chain fence they were going to put river rock down so it wouldn't become unruly.
