This post is probably premature since I don't have the numbers, but the guy just came by. I liked him. This was another window company but he was a little more thorough than the first window company. And doing a cut out for a bow window was a little more common for them than the exterior company (they do 10-12 per year). He said they don't have an engineer but he described the same installation process as the second company. He said he could pull the permits for a price, but recommended we just pull the permits ourselves to save a little money. I liked the detail he provided on the finishing work and the fact that they use a mason to cut the brick and fashion a nice ledge for a new cut out.
He uses Pella for wood windows. I forgot to ask what they use for vinyl. I think we're going to stop by the warehouse to take a look in person. He wasn't salesman-like, really straightforward. Just a good meeting. He threw a couple rough numbers out, suggested the wood bow would probably be upwards of $9K. So that's in the ballpark.
He said he has a large vinyl bow in stock that was mis-ordered on another job. It's much taller than we planned though - so you couldn't put a couch under the window. But I'm so tempted to ask the price - he's going to sell it on Craigslist.
