I have read a few places that having the baby bring big sister/brother a gift is a good idea. I already know DD#1 is going to have quite an adjustment not being the center of attention. So I think I want to do this, but now I am at a loss for what her new baby sister should "get" her. Anyone else doing this? Any ideas?
Oh, a baby doll might be a really good idea. Especially since she always want to help/be hands on, but there will be some limitations obviously. Maybe a doll would be a good distraction.

I bought matching earrings for both of us (amethyst studs....we're both February babies), and gave them to her the night before I went in for my csection.
She liked showing them off to everyone and telling them we had special "Mommy-Daughter earrings".
I don't think that we are going to give a gift "from the baby" because DS is old enough that he knows that the gift won't really be from the baby. We will probably buy him a "big brother" kind of gift--maybe a matching outfit with the baby or something to make him feel like a big boy to use to help out. I am not sure.
DS turned 2 when I was 7 months pregnant with DD. So "the baby" bought him a stool for his birthday. It had tractors on it, which made it a big hit. He still calls it the stool the DD gave me. Then when DD was born and DS came to the hospital, he got a Toy Story Trash Truck from DD. Also, most people were a lot smarter than I am and sent a small gift for DS when they sent a gift for DD. It's not something I had thought about before, but now I do the same.
The baby got my daughter a doll house and a family to go with it. She "gave" her the family at the hospital. (I put the wrapped box at the bottom of the baby bassinet for her to retrieve. We set up the dollhouse in her room after she left for school but before we went to the hospital (It had been in the bottom of our closet for weeks). She can act out scenarios with the family if she gets annoyed at us or the baby. lol.
She loves it. She keeps putting the baby doll from the family into the baby's bed :-)
(We are going light on Christmas gifts - mostly just the furniture for the dollhouse which came with it).
I got dd1 a backpack and put in it a coloring book, new set of crayons, big sister shirt, a movie and a couple easy snacks. It was more so a few things to keep her busy with my dad while I was in labor but it was stuff she loved.
