Keep in mind that we still have no backsplash, and that we are missing the integrated panels for the fridge and dishwasher.
ETA: Also that the photos were taken on my tablet and that the kitchen is the size of two postage stamps, which makes it really difficult to photograph. ;p
Honestly, it is turning out exactly as I imagined, and irl is nicer than in the pictures. It is warmer and has a comfier vibe than I think it has in the photos.
Even my super traditional, British GC thinks it feels warm and welcoming, and says that he could spend some time sitting at the island with a cup of tea or a cocktail. He actually did spend some time sitting there without either, and didn't want to leave.lol
Thank you....and for pointing me in the right direction (the light direction?), a huge THANKS!!!!! It really makes the space. It looks better now that I have all the light bulbs in the uplights too.lol
The building inspector said that I was trying to fit '10 pounds of potatoes in a 5 lb bag', (I told him that I owned 15 lbs )but when he saw the 'sort of finished' kitchen last week I asked him if he thought I had fit the 10 pounds in, and he said that I had succeeded. lol
I will say that I showed it to my husband and it confirmed that his tastes (mine, too, if I'm honest) don't quite run THAT modern. I show my husband kitchen pix for inspiration every chance I can, as we are hoping to be building in 2014 and I will need his confirmation on the kitchen (he is the primary cook).

I totally understand where you are coming from.
This is the kitchen that works in this house, and would have been too modern (and completely wrong) for our last house.
I am hoping that the backsplash that we chose takes the modern down another notch. Not that I don't feel that the kitchen works in our 1970s rustic/hippie/modern house...irl it feels very connected, with the dark roughsawn trim throughout the house blending with the color and texture of the dark cabinets. I just feel like the backsplash will connect it to its 70s roots and ground it.
