I think Target might have some children sets for under $100? To get what you want though, you'll probably be spending more than that. I just spend $90 on a full size quilt for my almost three year olds bed plus more to get a sheet set and dust ruffle. So I probably paid $150 total for a set that I love (and think she'll love too) at Target (not in the children's area, I went more adult friendly.)
If it's just the right shade, go ahead and spend $100 on a bedding set. It's washable right? Stop stressing and do it already! I spend $100 on crib bedding. *shrug* I love it and it's good quality and will last through baby#2 (which is years away). I don't regret it for a second.

Eh, if money isn't an issue (and just an "OMG I SPENT HOW MUCH ON WHAT?!" issue) then I'd do it. I spent $70 on a quilt for DS (JUST the quilt) so I can't judge.
What shade of purple are you looking for? Maybe we can help?
DD's bedroom is painted a lilac color. I already have sheets, a down comforter, and a white bedskirt for her bed. Her curtain panels are white with lilac polka dots.
I went on PBK for ideas (probably my first mistake) and had something like these duvets in mind:
I dont want anything with a pattern/theme (like no butterflies, also no gingham, no stripes...). I am finding some non-PBK versions of the above bedding but it's all around the same price or more expensive! (Macy's has a textured/ruffle quilt like the Lillian one above but I can't get it in full/queen).
I may even cave and go all white, or do a coverlet/quilt instead, but I dont like quilts with "flowery" stitching (if that makes sense).
I also dont want to buy something that I just like so-so (especially since all of the so-so stuff is still even $80+!)
If you're just looking for a solid duvet cover, they're super easy to make. Either by buying two king size flat sheets and sewing them together or purchasing several yards of coordinating fabric and sewing one. All the sewing is in straight lines.
I loved some sets from PBK and Land of Nod, and Company Kids, but couldn't stomach forking over the money for them, especially since ds has bunk beds and needed two sets. I found similarish ones at Home Goods, have you looked there?

We dont have a Homegoods but I did check 2 Ross locations and a TJ Maxx (and I didn't see any duvets at all? Not sure what was up with that!)
To the person asking about making a duvet, I couldn't find any individually sold flat sheets online in a pattern that I wanted for under $50/sheet. Plus I have like ZERO time in my life for a project like that (and i'd have to dig my sewing machine and all of my sewing supplies out of my junk drawer of a guest room anyway...)

I agree with the cost per use. If you buy something from PBK, it will likely last until she's a preteen and wants something cooler. DS is on year 3 of his quilt from PBK and it looks great still (except the clear nail polish he snuck out of the bathroom and used on the back -- turd).
What really matters is the per use price. If you use the thing 1000 times and don't replace too soon, you got your monies worth. If you may want to change up colors and/or styles in the next couple of years, I'd pass for something less costly.
This is actually a really good thought, and the reason why I wanted to do something on the more plain side (so it would still match colorwise, even if we changed themed decor items).
I would guess that she would use the same duvet, at least, for a few years. If I had to guess, at least 3, if not more.
I think the cost per use makes it worth it but it is hard to pull the trigger. I really want the Pottery Barn Woodland duvet cover for DD1's room but I'm hesitating too.
Just a question: is the shade of lilac tied to the wall color? If you didn't know before, you do now, that you never paint before you buy bedding because it is impossible otherwise. I'd spend the $30 and 2 hours on another can of paint, personally, if there was a cheap comforter I had liked but didn't match the wall color.
I bought a Queen set from PBK when my daughter was born. It was the matching duvet to the crib set and I'm pretty certain the duvet was about $140.
She is 4 now. We STILL use the duvet. It has held up amazingly well after countless washings. I have never held on to a duvet as long as this one, but it really does look like it's only a year old. So the quality is there, if that counts for anything. The $40 comforter that we got for my son ended up being the beach blanket after about 4 months.
Personally, I think it's worth the money. My son has bunk beds so when he was 18m and moved to his big boy room (baby #2 was on the way) I had to find something but didn't want to spend a ton. I found navy plaid ones that worked and were $90 for two on sale with shams. Total crap! I washed them maybe twice and the seams were falling apart.
He's only 5 now and we're on our second set...pbk this time!
My DD has land of nod bedding and we really like it. I will say though, she's only 3, used it a bit over a year and it has quite a few stains on it. We're getting her new bedding already just because kids are hard on things.
Go for it. PBK kids stuff holds up really well. The majority of my 11 nieces and nephews have PBK quilts. I know that 2 of the quilts are at least 7 years old. Think of how many times you'll wash your DD bedding.
I spent $125 on a PBK quilt and sham for DS toddler room.
Be sure to check ebay for PBK stuff, even current lines. I got DD #1's twin quilt and sham from ebay for a fraction of the cost of buying it new. It was new in the package, and I haven't found anything wrong with it.
