This past weekend we got a bunch of longhorn meat after going in on a purchase with my mom and her neighbors. We basically got a quarter of a cow in my deep freezer, already portioned out into rump or shoulder roasts, steak cuts, and ground up pounds.
The H has a friend who loves to cook that agreed to help take care of our dogs while we go OOT this weekend. I told the H we can pay him in beef (I meant it as a joke), and I got a text this morning that friend accepts the deal and would gladly take some steaks.
Oh how I'd love to get my hands on some beef, mainly for the dog.
I would try to include you in the deal but I never know when it is going to happen until they deliver it. I told mom back in April we wanted in on the next round and we just got it this past weekend without any other notice. It was $520.00 for one cow, so it cost us $130 for a quarter. For how much meat they bring us, it really is worth it.

Have you eaten longhorn beef before? I haven't, but I would think that since they were bred to be hardy and lean that the meat wouldn't be as good (well marbled)... Let us know how it is!

I think it is longhorn meat, but I would have to ask again to be sure. I have noticed that when we cook the ground meat from these deliveries, there is definitely not as much grease to drain than when we use store-bought ground beef. I haven't really noticed any difference in the filet cuts, though, tastewise or by the look of it.
