L just turned three. Up until now he has had very little in the way of toys in his room. One small toy box with random toys inside. All of his good stuff is in our family room. But after his bday a few weeks ago and xmas, the family room only has so much space, so he now has some fun stuff in there. A duplo table, to be specific.
And now he won't nap!!!
We've never had a problem with him staying in his bed and napping until now. We're on day 3 of him playing in there the whole time. Apparently it was just boring in there before. What do I do? I'm not ready for him to drop a nap. Do I remove the duplos? Ugh. Certainly other kids have toys in their room, right? Do I keep going in and making him get back in bed?
DS is 4.5 and we just moved some stuff in his room - mostly bc we got more shelving bc the bookcase was overflowing and now there's room for them. He doesn't nap anymore though unless he falls asleep in the car and he is usually so tired at night I don't think he'll bother. We'll see though.
We have lots of toys in his room, but he is still in his crib (19 months). He naps fine, but if it became an issue I would have no problem taking the toys out. Good luck!!
My older two (6 and 3.5) have lots of toys in their rooms, but they have both been done with naps for a long time. I need their Legos, Playmobil, and other small parts to be kept in their rooms so that the playroom stays relatively safe for the baby. The baby have some toys in his closet and in bins on a shelf for storage purposes, but he doesn't really play in there.

Lord I wish he was still in his crib. He was in it until a little after two, but we switched him to a big boy bed so baby could use the crib. Keep your kids in their cribs as long as possible!!
I sooo don't want him to be done with naps yet. Might have to move the duplo table out after all.
A few--stuffed animals, hand held game things & American Girl stuff. Oh & DD2/3's room has a dollhouse in it too. They play in their rooms maybe 1-2 hours a week,

Yes. Our apt. is too small not to store actually MOST of his toys in his room. And yes, it was a problem to a certain extent. For DS, it was mostly at bedtime. Naps I didn't care much about him playing. Either way he was out of my hair and giving me a break and 9 time out of 10 he would eventually fall asleep anyway, so I actually got MORE of a break that way.
Only books, flash cards, and the Fisher Price remote control. But he's also contained in the crib (and I plan on keeping him there as long as possible!)
J only has books and a few stuffed animals. He is 19 mos though and still in a crib.
After Christmas we have found we are starting to reach capacity in toy storage. We have a leather storage bench in the foyer that is now also holding toys. Once that no longer works for overflow storage I will roatate toys by storing some in the basement. We dont have a playroom so all of our toys are in our living room/dining room area.

Bedtimes are still going okay, so far. I assume because its dark in there. Or maybe because he's so tired from not taking a nap.

Ah, see, DS falls asleep with the light on. That is not Bueno with the toys.

We only have books in there right now and will probably keep that way until he's older. We have some toys in the living room and the rest in the playroom.
I just have the "boring" toys. Stuffed animals, books, puzzles, flashcards. She's not the best napper anyways, so somedays she sleeps just fine, the next she doesn't at all. I don't care that she plays toys, the rule is she has to stay in her room and be quiet. If she's tired she sleeps and the toys don't matter.
At night time she takes 2 toys to bed and falls asleep playing with them. Pretty fast usually.
IDK. It's not too big of a deal to me. I have a kid that needs more wind down alone time than actual sleep, so I'm not too bothered by it.
Maybe when the newness wears off, it'll get back to normal?
DS is 2.5 and has toys in his room. He's still in his crib so it hasn't been a problem yet. Now you are making me never want to transition him out of his crib!

Yes, but he's still in his crib at 15 months. My mom swears my little sister was in her crib until Kindergarten. Our younger brother was in a bed before she was. I am keeping my son in his crib as long as possible. Good luck!

Yes. They both have a ton of toys in their rooms. DS1 went to a toddler bed at 20 months and never really played instead of napping. We have blackout curtains, so maybe that helped. Now that he's 3 he naps about 70% of the time and plays the other 30%. Or just snuggles with me on the couch instead of napping.
DS2 is still in a crib and I have a feeling with his personality it could be a different story once he has free rein.
