Not much to share since I was on here pretty much the entire time.
Water broke at home at 10:10pm. Admitted to L&D around 11:45. I was still 3cm & 80% effaced. Had some strong contractions, but nothing like what I was imagining. At 3am the nurse said the anesthesiologist was on the floor and now would be a good time to get my epi before he went home. I was a little hesitant bc I've heard/read that the epi could slow down labor.
I decided to get it - the nurse said once I got past 7cm they couldn't/wouldn't do the epi. She checked me after I got it done and I was at 6, so I was definitely glad I had it done.
I was so anxious I could not get a minute of sleep. We were up all night. Bad move.
At 9am on 12/22, I was ready to push. The dr came in multiple times to check my progress- pushing is hard work and I had a difficult time remembering to breath and push and not breath and take deep breaths. It was nothing like what I thought and it freaking hurt so bad. OMG.
At some point I heard them say something like " oh no wonder she's not coming out/down, she's face up" FML.
I was sweating buckets. DH was so so good. He was putting a rag on my head but at some point I was just like do not touch me. Lol. Poor H.
I don't want to tell horror stories but I felt like my vagina was being ripped in half. DH said the OB was stretching and pulling and OMG ouch. She finally came out at 11:25. I was hurting so bad I was shaking.
They handed her to me right away- then the dr started stitching me up. Dear gawd. I had 2 internal tears.
It is hilarious how much I didn't care about anything during labor. I'm a super modest person and I was adamant that no one would be in the room except DH & medical people.. HAHA. I ended up letting my mom in the room, with her camera.. DH actually asked her to stay bc he got woozy when they did the epidural/ he wasn't sure he would make it through the birth.
Fine. I guess I had a lot to say.
TL;DR Had my kid. Sunny side up. Hurt like hell. The end.
ETA: Besides the 2 tears, my only other complication is this damn drop foot. Still can't dorsi-flex my foot. I can walk okay, but my gait is wacked out, and very exaggerated. I have a follow up appointment with a neurologist on Friday.
Oh wow! Glad she is here ok. That's funny about your DH getting woozy during the epi!
He was fine until the Dr. started asking me if i felt any tingling, heard bells ringing in my ears, or tasted a metallic taste. He said that freaked him out. He turned 12 shades of white and had to sit down before he fell out.
Congrats again! Yikes on feeling like your vag was being ripped open. Glad everything turned out OK and I hope they figure out what's going on with your foot soon!

Aww, great pic! Congrats!! Do you think your epi wore off somewhat during delivery? I know everyone is different but that all sounds a little extreme! I just felt lots of pressure and my daughter was also face up before she finally turned (back labor pre-epi was a bitch!)

The anesthesiologist told me that the epi would not work during the actual pushing. I had a button for the epi, I pushed it once when I started feeling pressure - I'm not sure how long it was between when I pushed the button & when I started pushing.
My friend & sister also had epidural a very recently and they so said that they just felt pressure.
I don't know if they turned it off bc I was having trouble getting her down or if I'm just incredibly wimpy- but I'm not exaggerating about the amount of pain I was in. I felt like I was in a movie- screaming & everything. Gawd . It was awful. We are very seriously considering only having one kid...
So sorry to everyone who hasn't delivered yet.. I'm sure everyone's experience isn't like that. I'm just "lucky" ha.

Sorry you experienced so much pain during pushing. I started feeling contractions with some pain around 9 cm and panicked, so the anesthesiologist came back and upped the epi. I found pushing to be physically challenging but not necessarily painful, so I wonder if your epi was wearing off.
Thanks for sharing --always interesting to hear others' experiences. I hope you're starting to recover. I had a second degree tear (again), but I am gradually feeling more comfortable.
I totally agree with modesty…mine is gone, esp. with BF. Everyone just walks in at any time and half the time my boob was out feeding Gabriel lol. On the last day I was getting out of the shower and in my underwear and a LC walks in and DH asked her to wait b/c I was changing and she said "oh that's ok" and walked right in! lol Also, b/c of the c-section I can only go up & downstairs once a day and we've had lots of family visit so I've BF in front of them (but covered). It is what it is!

you are not wimpy, you just gave birth to a gorgeous daughter!! To me it sounds very likely your epi was wearing off, but it was all worth it in the end!

I was told the same thing...that the epi only gets so far and doesn't reach all the way to the vag. I felt everything too, but my epi was definitely wearing off before I started pushing (the feeling was coming back in both legs) so I'm not sure how that contributed.
Congratulations again! That photo is beautiful. I'm sorry to hear about the complications you had/are having; I hope you have a smooth recovery and your foot goes back to normal soon!
