Are you/did you glue down the tracks? What did you use? I can't handle the billion pieces and they're getting ticked the track slides around so much... But mostly because I'm sick of putting it back together already. I just don't want to ruin it!
We got one for Henry when he was 18 months old . Don't glue them!!! It's annoying as fuck now, but in just a few months the true joy and creativity comes in them creating different track variations.
We did order some track clip things - little plastic pieces you can snap on and off and they hold the tracks together - especially helpful for elevated tracks. Let me see if I can find the name ....

good to know that we're approaching that stage! I haven't bought one yet but want to for his birthday

We hot glued DS1's when he was little. The next day, we went into his room and all the track pieces were piled up in the middle of the table. Crazy child.
We actually did glue the tracks down. With a little tiny dab of hot glue every few inches or so. We made a simple track and packed up all the other pieces for now. The glue works great, and we were able to easily pop the tracks up when DF wanted to rebuild a different track.

Thanks for the input! I don't know... I mean, I don't honestly see Fiona getting to the stage of putting together her own track creations any time soon. Linus is almost 3 and even he has no interest in moving them around (on purpose). And 3 of the track pieces came with the little ball ends broken off (kidkraft with good reviews- I was surprised). I tried gluing the balls back on they just broke off again. So it just really doesn't seem that durable to take apart and put back together. The pieces really don't even fit together, they just kind of sit there. Is that normal?? I got the idea of gluing them because the first 3 people I told that we got the train table all said to glue them or you'll go crazy lol. I remember the train set we had and it was plastic with pieces that actually snap together and stay that way.
That's weird that your pieces don't fit together.. ours is kidkraft too and all the pieces fit together great.
I don't know... I mean, they all fit, but they're so much looser than I imagined. I guess I've never had a wooden train track so I was expecting them to just be a little tighter fitting I guess? Regardless, I need SOMETHING to stop Linus and Fiona from using the tracks as weapons!!!
We screwed ours into a 3/4" sheet of plywood and put felt pads on the bottom so it'd slide. We screwed from the top because it was easier and looks fine.

Oh yeah, wooden pieces are just placed together pretty much. They don't click together or anything.
I would try double stick tape or those little tape squares you use on the back of photos to start and see if that helps before gluing.
They are called "sure track clips " and you can get them on amazon.
Did you do all of the track pieces?
We generally only used them for the pieces that fell apart most frequently/easily (elevated tracks, etc). It really did only take him a few months to figure out how to repair the tracks himself or build his own (of course, then he spent his days building elaborate tracks all over the house - anywhere but his train table, lol)
