My card number was stolen in November. The only purchase before Chase caught it was a Match.com subscription. Who steals a credit card and uses it to sign up for a dating service? Not that I'd ever steal a credit card, but if I did, I'd be going on a shopping spree at Nordstrom or Anthropologie or something.(And yes, I'm 100 percent sure that my husband didn't sign up for Match.) I'd had that card for more than 10 years and had it memorized. SO annoying.
On the upside, my impulse spending online has dropped like 75 percent since then because I'm too lazy to get up and get the new card every time I see something I want.
I'm always baffled by the online orders because theoretically they have to put in an address, just saying. I mean, I guess they could use a neighbor and stalk the house and steal it before it's taken inside, but that seems like so much work.
When my American Express was stolen this summer they bough $200 from buydig.com, a Canadian prepaid phone card (that set off the fraud alert), and a month after canceling they bought a movie rental on amazon.
At least it was caught. I totally missed the buydig.com purchase when reviewing my statement.
My Chase card was hacked in the past. Sucks! They are quick to reverse all the charges with little fuss.
But it seems like Chase has a lot of these kind of issues. A few friends have gone through this too.
That's probably because they are one of the largest credit card issuers in the world. No one's on hear griping about their Orchard Bank card being stolen because only like 3 people have it.
