Our current internet/home phone is $97 a month. Comparing that to our neighbors, it is super high. Their internet/home phone is $50 a month - same speeds and details. A few others on our road said they pay about $50-60 and that $97 is absurd, which I think as well.
So I talked to my internet company and asked them the terms of the current service; 5 year price lock and no contract. I then asked them if there was a better package available, they said no.
However, if I were to cancel my service and re-sign up, internet/home phone package is currently going for $51.98.
Do people do this? Would that be a shitty thing to do? Are people allowed to cancel and re-up if there is no contract?
Well, I didn't threaten to cancel/change services because there aren't any other services to change to. So I didn't want to shoot myself in the foot. But I think $97 is outrageous for shitty internet service to begin with.
I could keep pushing that if there is no contract, then I should be able to change to a different or newer package, right? In the past 3 years, I have never seen a package at 90+ and no one can explain to me how mine is worth 90 other than "you have the best rate"
We did it with Time Warner. It would be in my name, and when a better rate came out, if they wouldn't give it to us, we'd cancel it and put it in H's name. I think there's a minimum time between new accounts though. Like, I couldn't sign up for what would be considered a new account eligible for promotional rates for 2 years or something.
Double check that there isn't a time period where you are not a customer before qualifying for the new package. I think here it's six months, but we have more than one provider so theoretically you could switch back and forth to get the best deals. Or just put it in a different name.
