Hi everyone! Sorry I fell off the face of the planet. Having the whole family in town with a newborn has been great, and distracting from my computer time!
Rosa Maria arrived on Christmas Eve weighing 6 lbs 15 oz and 19.5 inches
Nothing went as I had planned as far as a natural low intervention birth, but the reward is wonderful! Full birth story below for those who care to read! Plus here's Rosa!
On Christmas Eve at about 1:30am I woke up to some contractions. With my false labor a few days before I went to the bathroom to see if they were real. I got back in bed and timed them for about 5 cycles and they were all 4-5 minutes apart so I woke up DH and told him what was up. As a typical boy he replied that they didn't count unless he had his app going! So we timed them for another 45 mins, and I started getting too much in my head so Stephen suggested that we go downstairs and watch some tv while we timed. So we watched some Duck Dynasty and I rolled around on my yoga ball and at about ten minutes before I was going to call my doctor, I felt a gush and my water broke! DH came out of his chair like I was on fire when I announced this!
I called the Dr.s line and reported to the hospital as directed with my mom in tow at 4:30am. Checked in to the hospital at 3cm and 80% effaced and got ready for things to really get started…but they slowed down. I walked, and walked around the L&D floor, bounced on my ball, and the contractions kept coming but nothing like they were before. At around 9am the Dr. checked me and I had regressed in effacement and nothing in dilation, so she suggested some pitocin to get things started. We started that and they ramped me up every half hour or so all the way up to level 8 and the contractions were every minute or two and pretty darn intense. At 1pm the Dr. checked me and I was at maybe 5cm and 50% effaced. The Dr. said I would progress at about 1cm per hour and my brain exploded at that thought. I could bear the pain but man was exhausted! I asked for the Epi which I really hadn't wanted to get. About an hour and a half later (and two tries at inserting the epi ouch!) I was at 9cm and 100% effaced station -2! Yay! I guess I just needed the epi to help me relax. Very soon after that the pressure increased and shifted back, and then it was constant. MIL and FIL arrived at the hospital delivered by our neighbors (which was awesome of them).
The Dr. checked me again and I was 10cm 100% and ready to push. She had to check on another patient so I did a couple pushes with the nurse as things starting flying around the room and the bed came apart around me! I did one more push with the nurse and she told me to stop as she frantically called the Dr. to get her back in and told me not to push when the urge came. hardest.thing.ever! The Dr. got there finally and told me to do a push while she was getting her gloves on, halfway through she told me to stop. And then when she was in position, one more push Rosa's head (and arm elbow first) were out, and one more she was here! It was the most amazing and completely surreal feeling to see her!!
