It will probably be really cold when I have the baby and I have read you aren't supposed to put them in a snowsuit and then in the car seat. I feel like a blanket won't be warm enough. I have this from Carter's and it's not really thick. Do you think this would be okay to have him in and in the car seat? Thanks

These problems make so thankful to live in Florida. It was "cold" the day we brought her home - we put her in a fleece sleeper w/ a blanket. It was probably in the 50's (LOL).
Could you get something like that? (I've seen cheaper versions at BRUS).
I am registered for a warm car seat cover, if I don't get it this weekend at my shower I'm planning on getting it. I just didn't know if it was warm enough still with no jacket/snowsuit type thing. It's confusing to know what's too bulky and what's not.

I wish that was our cold! That's our starting to get warm here. Lol

The one I got is definitely warm enough. It is super thick. It says it works in up to -20 degrees so I was just planning on putting the baby in a sleeper with it. You could always do a fleese sleeper to make it warmer. I am actually planning on going for walks with mine if possible but I'm sure you will be fine just for in and out of the car.

Ha. I know! I'm just dumbfounded at the weather all over the country these past few days. I can't comprehend these crazy temperatures. Our low tonight is 30, and DH & I are all, "Oh shit, that's cold, gonna have to use the emergency heat setting."

For everyone getting a carseat cover, make sure to get the one that is like a shower cap (goes over the top). The Bundlemes and ones that go between the kid and the carseat are not considered safe.
Oh and to add, we do the shower cap carseat cover and then just put a blanket inside over DD2's legs in the infant carseat. ETA: She just wears a sleeper. We have what you posted and I cannot get the straps tight enough. Its too bulky IMO
That suit in the OP is what we used when DD was small. They have all their clothes on underneath and then a blanket on top. If you are still worried you can make sure your car heats up a bit before you take the baby out there.
no. it's too thick. I'm a mother-baby nurse, so I am the person who checks the carseat before everyone leaves. some new parents tried to put their kid in the exact same suit in your OP, then in the carseat. it wouldn't even buckle in front. not safe. use a fleece-lined sleeper, hat and buckle into the carseat, then cover the legs with a blanket, and get a carseat cover. there are some good fleece-lined ones out there that are elasticized to fit around the carseat and not interfere with the belts.
this is not something you want to take chances on with a new baby. you would never forgive yourself if your child was hurt while improperly buckled into the carseat.

I personally wouldn't use that. When I did my hospital class they did a car seat safety training and said no snow suits/ thick fleece suits/ or the jj cole bundle me things that go under the baby (we had one of those, luckily we didnt open it, and returned it). They said the only thing the hopital will be ok with us using is a blanket over the car seat...or one of the covers that goes over the car seat (like other posters said, the elastic type that go over the seat like a shower cap would). I will be delivering in January (hopfully within the next week or so!) in New England so it's really cold here, I have a cover that a friend gave me that goes over the car seat (its Eddie Bauer I believe) and a warm hat/ outfit, and blanket.

It needs to have elastic around is and kind of fits "over" the car seat as opposed to i it.
Duh, to me. I just realized that. I am going to take it off the registry.
Yeah shower cap style is what you want. It really does keep them warm. When I take DD out of the car, I flip the flap over her so she's completely covered.
I wouldn't be comfortable strapping baby in with that -- it's thick enough that it would create too much space between the body and the straps.
We have only been out a couple of times, but I had to take DS to the pedi last week when it was 15 out. I had him in a LS onesie, fleece sleeper, hat, and mittens. I put a fleece blanket on him and a muslin blanket over the car seat. When I took him out to undress him, he was very warm.
Ugh so many things to worry about and that I don't know
Yep, I totally thought the jjcole one was the one you were supposed to use! I just bought it from jalapenomel. Oh well, I will still use it when we are out and about, just not when he's strapped in the car

You learn as you go. I'm on my 2nd kid and there are still things I have to ask other people about that I don't know or things I've forgotten about from my first child.
Try not to stress about it. Ask these boards any questions you have.
disappointedkittens, I didn't even have to click the link to know which one you're talking about it. it's super popular. my thought is this: I don't trust it and wouldn't use it on my own child(ren), should I be so lucky. I trust the "shower cap" type covers. I trust just putting a blanket on the baby's legs and a hat on their head. but I don't trust that thing because it does interfere with the straps. and if you were to get into a car accident, that blanket would void your carseat warranty and release the company from liability. again, would you want to risk your child for that blanket?

Thanks! I will stick with just the one we have then I appreciate the quick response.
