I make my students tell me their names for the first two days of class to avoid making an ass of myself. My college is ethnically diverse, and there are lots of unfamiliar names.

To your question, if I HAD to pronounce the name without any guidance, I would pick SHAY-lee.

I clicked on "SHY-lee" because the name Shai is pronounced like "Shy," so that would be my first instinct.

I agree with D2M that my brain tells me it's "Shy-lee" based on spelling. However, I've never heard that name before, so I told myself it was a creative spelling for "Shay-lee".
