The hospital i delivered at is rated one of the top 10 most expensive hospitals in the United States.... go figure.
"The study concluded that for every $100 in cost at {my hospital} Regional Hospital, the hospital charged $1,083, and for every $100 in costs at {other hospital in my county}, they charged $1,052.

There is nothing to negotiate, everything is in network with my insurance. If it were out if network I would have some wiggle room, but my insurance is the one saying how much I pay.
It's unreal that these really small, rural hospitals are making the list for top 10 most expensive.
No link, but the study was done by National Nurses United. The study might be on their website, I didn't search yet. Here is another story about the study - I'm not going to post the one from my local paper.
Luckily charges have very very little to do with what insured patients pay.
True. Unfortunately we have a large uninsured population in this county. The unemployment rate was one of the highest in the state for a while - i'm not sure if that is still the case.
I know people who have shopped around for hospitals to deliver at because of this. If you're paying out of pocket you can save a lot depending on where you choose to deliver.

Hm, I wonder how they would get prices.. So many things could happen, there is no way a hospital could price out every scenario.
There are only 2 hospital with L&D here, both were mentioned in the article. The next closest hospital is at least an hour & that was just not an option.

No idea. Maybe they asked for the average cost of a labor and delivery at each hospital. I imagine you would just get ballpark figure with which to compare, but maybe it's better than nothing. But yeah, it only works if you have options.
