Call edgepark, they are the company that supplies the pump and are great. They will contact your doctor for a prescription if needed for an electric pump. I got a medela double electric for free.
That's odd. I have BCBS of California and they told me to go to Byram Healthcare or Edgepark Medical Supplies (I think there are other options for suppliers, but those are the big national ones). Both those websites show only electric options. You might want to call for further clarification on that rule.
That's BS. I have HBCBS and got a free double electric pump.
Not necessarily. It can vary by state and plan, just like I said. No insurance company is required to provide a specific pump or electric pump. Manual pumps are considered fair game by the law from what I read.
You are totally right. BCBS offers many different types of plans and coverage, your employer is the one that determines what you get. When I had my son 4 years it seemed pretty rare to have a pump covered at all. It's only because of the Affordable Care Act that most plans are now required to cover a pump. I look at it as a bonus.

My BCBS is not covering an electric pump since it is grandfathered in. I hate that state health plans have a reputation of being "wonderful." It has been nothing but crap.
