This is the living room in our new place and we're trying to figure out how to set up the living room. My thought was to buy the wall mount that swings out so that we can have the tv kind of like they have it now, but higher up. Does anyone else have a similar set up?
I wouldn't put it much higher, you don't want an uncomfortable viewing angle.
As for swing out mounts make sure you buy one that is rated for at least 15 pounds over your tv's weight, if you ever plan on buying a larger TV you want to factor that in as well because the good mounts cost a lot of money. We buy mounts here everyday for $50 and they are only holding 7# devices. Make sure your mount has multiple lock points, you basically want the ability to lock every angle so that it doesn't move.
Have you thought about mounting it over the fireplace? If that's not an option, I'd keep it on a stand. T.V.s mounted in the corner remind me of hospital rooms for some reason.
It doesn't look like there is enough room for a 42" above the fireplace, and not all fireplaces are built to have a TV over them. There needs to be additional insulation if you ever plan on using the fireplace, otherwise you will melt your TV.

We just corner mounted our 42" tv in our living room...make sure you buy a full motion wall mount that extends off the wall 20" or so, don't make the mistake we did and buy one that only extended 10" because it didn't come off the wall enough so we could see it from our kitchen.
My DH insisted the TV wasn't too close to the loveseat in the picture but funny how whenever we watch tv we're both on the couch across from the tv! So I'm not sure if we're going to keep the tv in the corner.
Don't mind the ugly burgundy & brass valance...we just moved in in this pic and DH's first priority was getting the tv hung!

DH now say he just wants to use the stand that came with the tv and put it on top of s corner unit like the current owners have, but that makes me nervous with DS and knocking it over. I am trying to convince him to put the 42" tv in the family room and then putting a smaller tv in the living room. We need to ask to go into the house in the next month to measure a few things again so I am going to measure that area to see how it would look. I feel like this is going tl first of many decorating challenges we're going to have...lol.
