Thanks to a new job, I can fly nonrev and want to take advantage of it! My best days will be mid-week but DH works normal hours so I will likely be traveling alone most trips.
What cities are good for solo exploring and relatively close to their respective airports? Obviously I can do overnights but would like some day trip recs too, if you have any!

But rather, to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, screaming 'Woohoo! What a ride!' So every day is a holiday and every meal a feast."

Yeah, where is day-trippable for you?
SF, Philadelphia, Chicago? Really I feel like most major cities are a decent bet, depending on your interests. And I would go pretty much anywhere by myself (very dangerous or very romantic places seem like the main exceptions), so I feel like the world is your oyster here. Go anywhere you can reach non-stop!

I think just about anywhere! IMO solo travel is more about adjusting to a different mindset than specific to a destination.
The only time I've ever regretted traveling alone was having dinner in a touristy beach town. The food was great, and I have no qualms dining alone, but since the area didn't have many locals (and no non-leisure travelers), the other tourists looked at me like I had two heads because I was dining by myself. After a while the staring just got annoying. So for me, cities and backpacker/adventure-travel destinations are a bit more comfortable for solo trips.
It's honestly what you make of it. I have a good time traveling solo for work to a lot of cities (including Omaha - sorry Nebraskan's, it's just not a "destination" lol).
